Weekly AESD Update

National Board Certification At AESD

We are proud to have celebrated our re-certified staff on the National Board Certification Teachers list. It was designed to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. NBCT is the most respected professional certification available in K-12 education.

Congratulations to our teachers for their accomplishment! We are proud of their work and for earning this exemplary designation.

Leader In Me

Did you know that four of our schools are Leader In Me schools? Desert Star is proud to be part of this whole-school improvement process, which is based on the idea that everyone can be a leader.

The Leader in Me program empowers young people to make positive, effective and responsible choices by introducing and reinforcing the 7 Habits - a set of leadership and life skills from Stephen Covey’s book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Rocket Art

Our 21st Century Rocket Academy continues to blast off! Through this program, we are able to provide Beyond-the-Bell programming for students in grades 1st through 8th. This includes specific academic tutoring, academic enrichment and activities including dance, art, STEAM and opportunities for collaboration.

This week, students focused on art practices and created rocket masterpieces.

AESD Cares Staff Recognition Of The Week - Mrs. Dobbins

"Stacy Dobbins has led the Washington, D.C. field trip the last several years at Desert Thunder. She donates her time organizing the trip, communicating with students, parents and representatives and plans the fundraising to help off-set the cost. She brought two of our daughters to Washington, D.C. over the years and we could relax knowing they were with a trustworthy and caring adult. Mrs. Dobbins goes above and beyond to provide students with a high-quality education and lifelong memories."
