Zilker Library: September 2015

Greetings from the Zilker Library!

I am so excited to be the new librarian at Zilker Elementary! This month you will find a paper newsletter in your child's Thursday folder, but I will also be sharing an online newsletter the first Thursday of each month via our Twitter and Facebook pages. Be sure to follow us and like us! Beginning in October, the newsletter will be digital only.

If I haven't met you yet, please feel free to stop by the library before or after school and introduce yourself. I am looking for volunteers in the library, too! Have some time to donate? Sign up on our Volunteer Spot calendar HERE! All you need is an email address.

Find the library on Twitter (@ZilkerLibrary) or on Facebook (facebook.com/ZilkerLibrary) for updates, pictures, information and more!

Love,

Mrs. Sharp

This month in the library we are...

  • First visits by all classes the 2nd and 3rd weeks of school
  • Scavenger hunts to learn more about the library procedures
  • Introduction to the "Book Hospital"

  • Finding "Good Fit Books"
  • Discovering the 2015-2016 Bluebonnet books

Hop, Jump, Fly, Swim, Crawl

This year the library will be participating in the AISD Living Materials project. We will receive one animal/month to host for 2 weeks at a time. The week before the animal arrives, clues will be posted in the library and students may guess the animal to win a book! Clues will also be posted on the Twitter and Facebook pages.

Here are the clues for September's animal:

  1. It is oviparous (lays eggs to be hatched outside of the mother)
  2. It is mostly active during the night
  3. It can usually live up to 12 years in captivity
Can you guess it? The answer is below!

Meet "Sol", the...

Fire Bellied Toad! He'll be in the library until September 22nd!
