St Jerome's Newsletter
Week 4 - Term 4 (Thursday 5 November)
St Jerome’s Primary School acknowledges and pays respect to the Traditional Owners and Elders, both past and present, of the lands on which this school is located.
Dear Parents and members of our school community
We have had a very busy few weeks and so may wonderful things happening around the school. Last weekend we held four very special Confirmation masses. We congratulate all those students on this very important time in their lives and thank their teachers who prepared them so beautifully for the occasion.
The Interschool Athletics Carnival took place yesterday and our team of students were a credit to the school, taking third place overall on the day. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and level of sportsmanship displayed by all our students. Thank you to all those parents who came along to support our students and also to Mrs Crosby for all the work she put in to prepare our athletes and to Mrs Kalat for her work in organising the event.
Don't Forget - Pupil Free Day Monday 9th November
Just a reminder to everyone that Monday is our last Pupil Free Day for the Year.

From time to time St Jerome’s Primary School conducts tours of the school. These are usually held during school time to help our prospective families gain a sense of our school in action.
We encourage you and your family to join us so you can see our facilities first-hand and experience the wonderful school community of which St Jerome’s Primary School is most proud.

Congratulations Meisha and Juana!
Congratulations to Meisha W who has been awarded a Netball Scholarship to Melville Senior High School and to Juana P who has been awarded a Fine Arts Scholarship to John Curtin School of the Arts. We wish both girls every success with their programs in 2021 and beyond.
COVID & Overseas Travel
COVID Update
As you will all be aware, our State boarders will be open as of 14th November. CEWA require us to have a policy in place to close down the school in the event of a positive case of COVID been reported from within the school community.
Staff have reviewed the policy this week and a drill will take place next week so that staff and students are familiar with the protocol. Further, into this Post I have included an overview of what will take place and how we will notify parents, who will then be required to collect their children as soon as possible after the announcement of the shutdown of the school.
It is timely then to remind parents that if children genuinely present as unwell in the mornings, please do not send them to school.
Planning Overseas Travel
If you are planning to travel overseas or interstate these holidays, please see a letter below detailing the latest strict requirements.
Grandparents’ Day at St Jerome’s - Friday 13 November
Next Friday 13th is our Grandparents Day and we look forward to welcoming all our grandparents to school to visit classes. Classes are open from 9am to 10:30am after which we will have an extended recess until 11:15am. Grandparents are invited to enjoy a light morning tea provided by the canteen with tea and coffee available. Children are encouraged to bring along something special to share with their grandparents at recess time so they do not miss out! There will be a number of Moring Tea stations around the school so that grandparents can comfortably social distance. These stations will be set up in the Undercover Area by the canteen, in the Year 5-6 area, the Circus Tent area behind the administration block and outside the Year 4 classrooms by the oval.
Unfortunately, we must still impose a restriction of 10 - 12 adults in each classroom at any time to comply with current COVID regulations. To assist with this, teachers will be using the area outside their classrooms for activities and as a place where children can show their grandparents the work they have been doing. Grandparents wishing to have their Kindy or Pre-Primary grandchildren join them for morning tea, will need to see the class teacher to sign the children out from the classroom and ensure that the children are signed back in at the end of recess.
Numbers for Grandparents day to assist with catering
Please could I ask all families who have grandparents attending our Grandparents Day next Friday, to complete the survey below to assist us with catering.

Seton Enrolments
We have had notification from Seton College that they now have a Wait List for their enrolments for 2021 and 2022. They have also confirmed that 2023 is almost full as well, so it is imperative that if you wish your child to attend the College in the future that you put their name down as early as possible.
Final P&F meeting for the year 7pm Tuesday 10th November
The final P&F meeting for the year will take place on Tuesday next week and there are funds available to spend on items for the school. We need at least 8 parents to attend to be able to spend, so come along and be part of the decision making!
At this meeting, Mrs Alp will be presenting the new ‘Positive Behaviour’ plan that is being implemented in the school.
God Bless

School Shut Down Plan in the event of a COVID outbreak within the community
To reduce congestion on the roads around the school and to ensure a smooth and safe pickup plan, parents are asked to remember which of two ‘Pick Up stations’ they are required to use.
· 1 – Front of school Drive through
· 2 – Back oval gates on Minga place
Children from all classes 3K- Yr 6 have been divided into 2 groups.
· Group 1 (Front of school Drive through) Children whose surname begins with the letters A- K
· Group 2 (Back oval gates on Minga place) Children whose surnames begin with the letters L - Z
The process will then be as follows:
· Parents are informed by text to read an urgent email from the school Principal
· Parents are informed in the email of Pickup time (within the hour) and reminding them which Pick up station they must use.
· Parents must not walk into the school to pick up their children but remain in their cars and use the Drive though Pick Up.
· Parents are reminded to display their family surname on their Passenger Visor for ease of identification
· EAs and teachers have been assigned to the different Pick Up stations so our younger students will have a familiar face with them as they wait for their parents.
· Children who would normally ride or walk home are permitted to travel home in this manner provided there is 'in home’ supervision when they get there. These students will need to come to the office at that time to ring their parents to confirm this.
· Parents collecting their students from Pick-Up station 2 at the rear of the oval, must approach the gates from Troode Street, (not Okra Ct direction) turn into Hamelin drive, turn left into Minga Place and the gates are on the left. Once children are collected please continue along Minga Place, turn into Anka Gardens, left into Okra Ct and then onto Rockingham Road.

www.youtube.comCharity support
This term we have had a flurry of conscientious students wanting to support a variety of charities in many different ways, from stalls and raffles to Free Dress Days, and it is wonderful to see the initiative that they are displaying and how they are Making Jesus Real by their actions. May I remind parents that if your child comes home asking for money for these stalls, that it is not necessary for your child to purchase anything at all. We encourage parents to suggest to their children that if they want to purchase something to use their own money rather than ask you for some, in this way they are truly supporting the charity themselves.

Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum - Parent Tips
Tip #24 – Refrain from making your child kiss or hug someone they don’t want to. There are other ways to show respectful affection such as shaking hands, giving a high five, or kissing a hand. If your child has objected to showing affection to someone in particular, check with them later and find out why.

Positive Behaviours
This year, a team of staff have been reviewing how the school deals with behaviour as part of our cyclical policy review. Our draft policy will be presented to parents at the next P & F Meeting on Tuesday, 10th November. We welcome any feedback from our families. The draft Positive Behaviours Policy is based on restorative practices – equipping children with the skills to accept responsibility for their education and behaviour. Underpinning this is our Catholic Social Teaching of Subsidiarity – this is authentic power. Ensuring that our children are given the skills to manage their big emotions and feelings. This is called self-regulation. A method called Zones of Regulation assists children is recognising that all emotions are part of being human. It is how we deal with them that matters.

A huge thank you to the St Jerome's School Community for supporting the Christmas Shoebox appeal again this year.
On Friday we were able to deliver 35 shoeboxes to the Balcatta warehouse. Your generous gifts of love will be distributed to children in need in a third world country.
We like to think that when we contribute to this appeal, we share God's love in a tangible way with children throughout the world.
Well done and thank you!
