Bessie Allen Middle School - SLO & Goals
Building SLO:
By June of 2016, 80% of students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will show growth in their opinion writing rubric score from the September 2015 opinion writing rubric score.
Building Goals:
- Have Patience and Courage
- Purposefully Use Learning Targets/Lesson Goals for Every Lesson
- Have Solution Based Discussions
- Be an Award Winning School - DPI School of Recognition/PBIS School of Merit
Driving Question for 2015-2016:
What have we changed with our instruction to prepare all our students for higher level thinking opportunities?
Still HELP WANTED - Please consider helping with these opportunities.
- Veteran's Day Leadership - Theresa Galligan is willing to help you with this.
- BAMS Historical Timeline - Continue the timeline through the present like we have in our main hallway.
- Honor's Reception Leadership - Connie Gross is willing to help you with this.
- BAMS Got Talent Leadership - Adam Micke is willing to help you with this.
- Data Warehouse Leadership - Design a collection tool for all of our behavioral/academic data to be housed in one Google Doc.
News and Notes
- Please remember to take careful attendance for each and every hour. Sometimes a student is marked absent for some hours, but not others. This could lead to an unsafe situation.
- Fun-Filled Friday - There will be a bunch of cool things happening on Friday; PBIS Celebration, Pep Assembly, School Dance. Please refer to Brandon's email about the plan for the school day. We can still use staff that are willing to volunteer their time to supervise at the dance.
- Bessie Allen Serves - We talked at our first staff meeting about our new volunteer idea for this school year. Kim Broten has contacted several team members to support this new idea. This week in Nesting you will be having some discussions with students about this. The basic idea is that each grade level adopts an organization and uses the 2015-2016 school year to see how much impact they can have in that time.
- I'm working with a few staff members on a small program for Veteran's Day this year. This may not be as eventful as it has been in the past with no one willing to take the lead, but we will recognize this day. A schedule will be sent out soon.
- Patience and Courage - Having Patience (fidelity) and Courage (take risks) is a goal for us this year. Thank you for your time during our inservice discussion about Eric Jensen and our instructional practices (learning targets). We all have our ONE thing to implement this week and beyond. It certainly will take patience and courage with the strategy or new thinking you are implementing this week. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

- For the Pep Assembly on Friday, please sit with our students. This can help with behaviors and it also allows you to connect with students. Win/Win!
- Our first PBIS Celebration is scheduled for October 30th. We will be watching a "scary movie" and giving students another opportunity to spend their BAMS Bucks. All students and staff are invited to the Celebration. We continue to have historic behavioral data for the start of our school year. What we do as adults matters for our students!
