Multiplying Numbers with Exponents
When multiplying bases the exponents can be added.
For example:
2^2 x 2^3
Step 1- Find exponents (2 & 3)
Step 2- Add exponents (2 + 3=5)
Step 3- Put in Exponential form (2^5)
Power to a Power
When a power to a power you multiply the exponents.
For example:
(2^2)^3
Step 1- Find exponents (2 & 3)
Step 2- Multiply exponents (2 x 3=6)
Step 3- Put in Exponential form (2^6)
Dividing Numbers with Exponents
When dividing numbers with exponents you keep the base and subtract the exponents.
For example:
2^5 / 2^2 = 2^5 / 2^2
Step 1- Find exponents (5 & 2)
Step 2- Subtract exponents (5-2=3)
Step 3- Put in Exponential form (2^3)
Zero Exponent Law
This is when anything raised to the zero power is 1.
For example:
a^0=1
