Dear Families,

THRIVE in the HIVE

Greeting Brilliant Bee Family,

On behalf of the staff at Bill J. Elliott Elementary School, I am happy to welcome you to 2020-21 school year! We have missed you all so much! Although the school year may look a little different as we began with virtual learning and are now adding in-person learning, our priority remains the same. We look forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.

The following standards will anchor our school year:

· Teachers will have planned availability for students – including scheduled office hours.

· Direct instruction will be delivered by teachers – students will be able to get teacher support when needed, and students will know how and when they can interact with their teachers.

· Students will receive clear, understandable directions on a daily basis on how to use academic materials.

· Teachers will provide instruction using two formats: Asynchronous instruction provides students with teacher assigned lessons, tasks or assignments for students to work on at their own pace. Synchronous instruction provides live, real time teaching with two-way teacher/student interaction.

We ask that you continue to guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

Remote learners - Please follow the virtual etiquette already established.

· Attends school daily by logging into their Google Classroom on time. School starts at 7:50am.

· A comfortable workspace and have all supplies ready.

· Dress appropriately for online class.

· Ensure they know their username and password

· Actively participates

· Completes all homework assignments given by teacher

· Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject.

In-person learners

· Arrive to school on time. School begins at 7:50am. School ends at 3:05pm.

Please drop off and pick up students around the back of the building. Students walking to school will enter by the gym.

· Ensure your child has all supplies and work needing to be turned in.

· Encourage your child to participate in classroom.

· Make sure your child is in dress code and wears a mask daily.

· Encourage your child to follow rules about wearing mask and washing hands and using sanitizer throughout the day.

Attendance Requirements:

· Remote attendance will count in the same manner as on-campus (face-to-face) attendance in satisfying this requirement.

· It is important that students understand that virtual learning attendance is based on daily engagement, not solely the completion of assignments.
