Modifications at Some School Sites
Tuesday, March 14, 2023
We are reaching out with an update on a few of our school sites and to inform you of some operational modifications for tomorrow, Tuesday, March 14, 2023. Please note the modifications in this email are current plans for tomorrow. If there is a change in school schedules based on the storm entering the region tonight, families will receive notifications in the morning through your preselected delivery method.
We continue to feel the impacts of the recent high-precipitation storms compounded with the heavy snow from the last two weeks. Portions of school site roofs continue to have snow load concerns at various locations.
However, due to our team's diligent work and significant progress in removing snow, in addition to the resourcefulness of our principals and staff, we are excited to announce that all TTUSD schools are scheduled to be open tomorrow, Tuesday, March 14.
The below modifications will be in effect as we continue to make progress on snow removal. We want to continue reiterating that safety will remain our number one priority in these decisions.
The five schools affected are Kings Beach Elementary, Truckee Elementary, Tahoe Lake Elementary, Donner Trail Elementary, and Truckee High School. Below is specific information on each school site.
Kings Beach Elementary | 2-Hour Delayed Start
Due to Sunday’s precipitation, readings on Monday identified a few portions of the Kings Beach Elementary roof exceeding snow weight levels. Students and staff in those portions of the building were relocated to the Boys & Girls Club building for the day.
Snow removal crews will be on-site tomorrow to remove the snow from these portions of the roof.
However, Kings Beach Elementary School will be open on a 2-Hour Delayed Start on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, with a few operational modifications. All classes will begin at 10:15 am. Buses will run on regular routes but will pick students up two hours later than normal. Here you can find the Master Bus Stop List, which includes pick-up times. Classes in the affected portion of the building will be relocated to alternate locations.
The delayed start will allow our team time to conduct another snow load assessment and provide affected teachers time to prepare for the arrival of students.
Truckee Elementary | Open with Modifications
We are excited to announce Truckee Elementary will be open to welcome students safely. Another day is required for snow removal on a few portions of the roof; however, staff has made modifications within the building to safely accommodate all students.
Due to this, Truckee Elementary School will be open on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
Tahoe Lake Elementary | Open
Tahoe Lake Elementary had a successful day of learning today, with minor modifications, and TTUSD crews were able to continue removing snow.
Therefore, Tahoe Lake Elementary School will open on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
Donner Trail Elementary | Open with Modifications
Monday morning, our team identified a few cracks in an exterior beam of the original portion of the building. Students and staff were relocated to a different section of the building, not impacted by these findings. We are working with an engineering firm to assess the situation and will keep staff and students out of that portion of the building until further notice.
Donner Trail Elementary will be open on a regular schedule with operational modifications on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
Truckee High School | Open with Modifications
Truckee High School will continue to be open on a regular schedule with operational modifications. There will be snow removal on a few portions of the building which are clearly delineated and sectioned off.
We hope to continue keeping students in school learning. Still, with the forecast predicting another storm this evening through Wednesday, there may be additional modifications throughout the week. We will continue to keep you informed and will always base our decisions on the safety of our staff and students.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
