April in the Library
2015
It's Spring!
It's spring at last, and it was very satisfying to take down the fireplace bulletin board outside the library and put up some lovely spring flowers.
Spotlight On...Poetry!
April was National Poetry Month, and on display outside the library were a number of DMS teacher's favorite poems. Inside the library a variety of poetry books were on display, including novels in verse.
Dedham Reads Together
Dedham Reads Together is a community-wide program for all ages coordinated by the Dedham Library Innovation Team (DLIT). At DLIT's 5th Annual Town-Wide Read Party at the beginning of April, school and public librarians were thanked for all the work they do.
This year's Dedham Reads together book was Strong Boy by Christopher Klein. Christopher talked about the fascinating life of boxer John Sullivan, and how he came to write the book.
The Dedham Public School librarians were dressed for the occasion.
Thanks to DLIT for the Heavyweight Champion for Literacy certificate!

Classes in the Library
6th Grade
Ms. Gamel's and Ms. Farry's Spanish classes worked in the library creating Google Slide presentations on the music and dance of Latin American countries. Students reviewed how to share presentations with their partners in Google Slides so they could work collaboratively on different pieces of their presentation at the same time. 6th graders also learned how to cite sources using EasyBib, and used a LibGuide to start their research.
7th Grade
We missed you this month! Come by soon!
8th Grade
In Library Research, students began looking at how to incorporate other people's information into their research. They learned about parenthetical citations, how to quote using a "quote sandwich" and practiced paraphrasing. Students are now beginning to look at evaluating online sources.
