RA Long High School Newletter
January 29, 2023
Quote of the Week
"You can't keep getting mad at people for sucking the life out of you if you keep giving them the straw."
2nd Semester is Underway !!
Second semester started last Thursday as we head into the final half of the 22-23 school year. Some reminders:
Attendance is critical to student success. Teachers cannot assess your learning if you are not here.
Active participation in classrooms is not a request, but an expectation.
Earning credits in each of the dedicated areas is essential in attaining the necessary 24 credits to earn a diploma.
Daily rules and expectations have not changed. Every day should be predictable, as are the consequences of your choices.
It’s never too late to make a new friend.
Being kind really isn’t that difficult.
The “soft skills” you learn and practice every day at school will also prepare you for post high school experiences you will be faced with.
Have a great week for YOU !!

Southwest Washington High School Chess Championships, February 4
I was asked to share this information to RA Long students:
(Transportation to this event is NOT provided)
R.A. Long High School students are invited to compete at Chess Regionals, the Southwest Washington High School Chess Championships, February 4 at Centralia College. Beginners welcome. Details at http://northwestchess.info/swwa.html
Two non-profit groups (WHSCA and CEA*) are working together to organize and provide free entry to the first Southwest Washington High School Chess Championships.
Last March, Regional Qualifying Tournaments were approved to provide a path to Chess State for areas without a high school chess league, such as Cowlitz County. Normally teams qualify for State out of their high school chess league.
As a Regional Qualifier, it's limited to students in western Washington who reside south and west of King County. Winning high school teams qualify to play in the 57th annual Washington State High School Chess Team Championships, to be held March 3 and 4 at Stanwood High School.
