School Stakeholder Annual Survey for STUDENTS
Dear Garfield Elementary Families,
To guide the Everett Public Schools continuous improvement process, each year schools survey students, families, and staff in an ongoing effort to understand our specific strengths and challenges that impact school quality. The School Stakeholder Annual Survey is only one of many pieces of data analyzed by school leaders and staff. In addition to survey data, student achievement, attendance, discipline, and program data is evaluated to create School Improvement Plan goals.
For the School Stakeholder Annual Survey, we use the same platform used for the Panorama Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) survey. Questions about school quality will be added to the SEL survey your student is already familiar with. These additional questions will be anonymous and used to guide school improvement.
As we shared prior to the fall administration of the SEL survey, SEL is critical for student success. The survey prompts students to reflect on their own actions and thoughts as well as their general experience at our school. Survey data will help school staff create a more positive school experience for all students as well as provide specific support for students in need.
The results from the SEL survey will be shared with pre-approved adults who work closely with your children in the school. SEL data, alongside academic and attendance information, will allow adults to provide specific and targeted interventions as needed to support students succeeding at school. Again, questions related to the School Stakeholder Annual Survey will be anonymous.
The questions that students will answer are research-backed, valid and reliable. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school at 425-385-4700.
Students at Garfield will begin taking School Stakeholder Annual Survey with the SEL Survey on February 28th. If you do not want your student to take this survey, please contact the school.
Take care,
Mr. Sedillo, Assistant Principal

School Stakeholder Annual Survey for FAMILIES
Greetings families,
To guide the Everett Public Schools’ continuous improvement process, each year schools survey students, families, and staff. This information helps us to understand our specific strengths and challenges that impact school quality. The School Stakeholder Annual Survey for FAMILIES is only one of many pieces of data analyzed by school leaders and staff. In addition to survey data, student achievement, attendance, discipline, and program data is evaluated to create School Improvement Plan goals.
Below is the link to our anonymous, multiple-choice family survey. We ask that you please complete and submit the survey after February 13th but before March 31. If you have more than one student in Everett Public Schools, please complete a survey for each school your student attends so that they can benefit from your feedback.
Thank you for partnering with us,
Mr. Sedillo, Assistant Principal

News from the Health Room
Lock. It. Up. Lock what up? Medications. Did you know that every year tens of thousands of children are hospitalized after taking medication not intended for them?
Here are some tips for reducing the risk in your own home:
- Any medication (with or without a prescription) taken in the wrong way or by the wrong person can cause serious harm, or even death.
When should you use a lock box for your medications?
- If you have any sort of prescription (even be cautious of medication patches that are discarded in the trash—these can be harmful to a child)
- If you have over-the-counter medications
- If you take vitamins or supplements, as these can cause harm if taken in large doses. An example is iron overdose— one of the leading causes of poisoning in children six years and older.
- If you have children or grandchildren. “Childproof” lids reduce risk, but do not eliminate the possibility that a small child will figure out how to open it.
- If you have a pet who has prescriptions
- Put medicines and vitamins up and away, and out of children’s reach and sight. Children are curious and have been known to put ANYTHING in their mouths. Pick a storage location that your children cannot see or reach.
- Put medicines away EVERY time. NEVER leave a medication on the counter or bedside.
- Make sure the safety cap is locked, but don’t rely on this as your only safety mechanism. Children may be able to open these, too.
- Teach your children about medicine safety. Explain that if taken incorrectly and/or by the wrong person, medication can be deadly. Teach your kiddos the intended purpose of medications and why it’s important they only take medications from a trusted adult. Don’t call medication “candy.”
- Ask visiting family members and friends to ensure their medications are locked/safe from children as well.
Be prepared in case of an emergency. Call your poison control center at 800.222.1222 IMMEDIATELY if you think your child might have gotten into a medicine or vitamin, even if you are not completely sure. It is much better to be safe than sorry. Consider SAVING the Poison Control number in your cell phone.
