JFK Parent News
Edition 6: Issue 3
Happy Fall!
We are easing into fall with weather different every day. We have been spoiled with warm temperatures! Please make sure your child comes with appropriate outerwear as the temperatures turn cooler. We go to recess unless it is raining.
Our Fun Run Fundraiser is on its way. Look in your child’s backpack for a Fun Run weekend challenge to receive a special prize. We are at 29% of our goal. We have one week to go to reach our fundraiser goal. Make this a great challenge weekend!
Parent conferences are coming up quickly. Your preference sheet was sent home September 21st. Schedules for your conference will be in your student’s backpack today.
There is no school on Monday and Tuesday, October 11 and 12. Parent conferences begin at noon on Tuesday.
Please send a water bottle with your student daily. We are using the filling stations instead of the fountain. We only have so many that we may give out.
The fall party will be held on October 29th, the last hour of the day. Teachers have been given a budget to plan the party for their classroom. No outside food may be brought in for the party. We will not have costumes. Teachers will plan activities for each of their classrooms.
Thank you for all the support you have given to help make this a successful school year. TOGETHER we can provide the best education for your child.
Have a wonderful October!

We're excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by our staff, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school. After missing out on many beloved traditions, our fall Book Fair will be a familiar, welcome, and safe event for our students.
The Book Fair will take place in the library at the following dates and times:
Tuesday, October 12th: 12:00pm-4:00pm
Thursday, October 14th: 3:00pm-7:00pm
Monday, October 18th: 3:00pm-7:00pm
Our Book Fair offers a cash-free payment option called eWallet. It's a convenient digital account that your child can use for shopping at our Fair. Grandparents, friends and others can contribute, too!
If you can't make it to the Fair, you can shop online at our school's Virtual Book Fair. The online Book Fair will be open for shopping October 12-15. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for orders over $25.00. Your online orders will also benefit our school. Visit our Book Fair homepage, linked here, to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping.
We're excited to celebrate our love of books together at the Book Fair. We look forward to seeing your child there!

Daily Procedure Reminders
Absences and Tardies
If your child will be tardy, please let the Office know by 7:50 a.m. so a hot lunch may be ordered if your child wishes to eat a hot lunch that day. Please call the Office by 7:50 a.m. if your student will be absent for all or part of a school day.
Water Bottles and Sanitizing
Students will continue to bring water bottles to be refilled at the bottle stations. If your child needs a water bottle, the school had many donated.
Hands and surfaces will continue to be sanitized as students enter classrooms and the building from recesses.
Dropping off Items At School
If you need to bring an item for your student after school starts, a table is in the foyer with bags and markers. Put the item in a bag, mark the bag with your child’s name and room number. We will be checking the foyer table frequently to insure we get those items to your child.
Visitors
All visitors, mentors, volunteers will be required to check in at the Office. Please bring your government-issued photo ID upon check-in.
If parents want to visit the classroom during the day, prior arrangements are made with the teacher. This includes delivering items. Please see above regarding our procedure for dropping off items at school for your child.
Only one application should be done per household, so please include ALL students on one application.
The Board approved the C2L plan on August 9th. Masks are encouraged, especially for nonvaccinated, but not mandated for staff and students. No student will be asked to wear a mask. You as a parent will need to make the decision for your child. We would encourage outside visitors wear a mask as JK-5th grade students are not able to be vaccinated.

Health/Dental Clinic Opportunities
It is important to teach your children about best practices as a pedestrian, and for elementary students this includes crossing only at corners, and never midblock. While it may save a few steps, it can be very dangerous in high traffic areas, or in areas with cars parked on the street. Staff on duty at JFK will redirect students that they see crossing improperly, but it is important that the same message is given at home.
