Fueling Future Ready Librarians!

Let's Stay Connected, Informed & Inspired! Summer 2019

Welcome, Future Ready Librarians!

I hope you had a terrific spring and are on your way to a summer of learning, connecting and a little refresh too.

With all of the amazing things being shared for Future Ready Librarians, I thought it would be helpful to bring it all together in one spot for you this summer and all year long.

Over the summer we will have updates and additions to the exciting work of Future Ready Librarians, and things we are celebrating and focusing on this summer and into the fall.

Let's use this as a place to stay connected to news, upcoming events, resources and of course, each other. Please let me know if there is something you'd like me to add to this Smore newletter. My contact information is at the bottom.

And if you haven't subscribed to the Future Ready Librarians Newsletter yet, please read this post to find out how you can sign up today.

Together, let's lead within and beyond the library and make a difference this year for our students, communities and ourselves. We are Future Ready Librarians, friends.

Have a terrific summer, Shannon

Collaborate and Create a Vision for Student-Centered Learning

Future Ready Schools® (FRS) Leadership Institutes are FREE two-day professional learning events designed to support district teams of 3 to 9 people in creating policies, procedures, and practices that empower them to transform teaching and learning in their school and/or district.

The leadership institutes will inspire, invigorate, and inform district teams with a wealth of information and resources that will support their Future Ready efforts. District teams will collaborate to build regional networks of like-minded colleagues, generate feedback on practice, articulate actionable next steps, and identify resources to take their learner-centered strategies to the next level.

ISTE U and a course For Future Ready Librarians!

Take a look...on the ISTE U site, you will find the course, Exploring Future Ready Librarianship: Practices for the Emerging Leader.

The course description:

Librarians play an essential role in bringing teaching and learning into the digital age. The new breed of librarian still helps students with research and finding the perfect resource, but today they’re often found showing students how to use technology, helping learners detect whether information is from a trustworthy source, and facilitating schoolwide training on edtech.

Though Exploring Future Ready Librarianship: Practices for the Emerging Leader, you’ll reflect on current librarian and media specialist practice; identify areas for professional inquiry and growth; explore the Future Ready Librarians™ framework; and create and implement a personal action plan to lead from the library. This course is designed to maximize student-centered learning opportunities and help districts leverage technology as part of the Future Ready Schools® Initiative.

This is a 15-hour, self-paced course with ongoing instructor support.

On the ISTE U site you will find more information including the course syllabus, the new ISTE/Future Ready Librarian Crosswalk and more.

The course was developed in collaboration with Future Ready, with the support from Follett and with Mark Ray and myself.

You will find the Future Ready Librarian ISTE U course here.

Updates To The Future Ready Librarian Framework!

One of the best things we shared last summer is something I know so many of you have been waiting for is the updated and second version of the Future Ready Librarian Framework!

Not only are there wonderful graphic updates, there are two very important additions and changes. The center has changed to Learner Center meaning all learners.

Literacy now surrounds the center, which I couldn't be more excited for!

As you look at the framework, Future Ready Librarians support student-centered learning through literacy by inspiring and supporting the reading lives of both students and teachers.

They create inclusive collections that acknowledge and celebrate diverse experiences and provide instructional opportunities to empower learners as effective users and creators of information and ideas.

You can see how it is included at the top of the new Future Ready Librarian framework poster, which you can find on the Future Ready Librarian page here.

We couldn't wait to share these exciting and meaningful updates and work with all of you too.

Check Out The ISTE Librarian Site Here! Check It Out!

ISTE has created a very special place for librarians. It contains amazing tools, strategies and resources to support and inspire all of us as Future Ready Librarians and leaders within our community and profession.

You will find new ISTE U online courses for librarians, a link to the amazing ISTE Librarians Network PLN, the ISTE Standards for Educators, the ISTE Blog, several new books in the library series, including Leading from the Library, by Bill Bass and myself, and I am really excited about....the Future Ready Librarians Crosswalk!

ISTE teamed up with Future Ready Librarians to create a crosswalk showing the relationship between the FRL framework and the ISTE Standards for Educators.

You will find the crosswalk and be able to download it from the ISTE Librarian site.

I hope you visit and bookmark www.iste.org/Learn/librarians today.

Thank you to everyone at ISTE who has worked so hard to bring us such a meaningful and important place for librarians.
