NACP PARENTS IN THE KNOW
News From Our Principal Dr. Guerrero
Week 3 - September 3, 2020
Weekly Message from the Principal
Needless to say this has been an eventful week! Our wonderful instructional assistants, office staff, maintenance crew, admin and other support staff worked together to prepare all devices for distribution. All devices were thoroughly disinfected, cleaned of old stickers, new barcodes and QR Code labels were printed and adhered to each device, and finally on distribution day each laptop backpack was packed and delivered to families who stopped by.
While all that was going on Teachers prepared informative slide show presentations they will be sharing at tonight's Virtual Back to School Night. I would like to thank everyone in advance for Popping in to Zoom for this event.
Our Get to Know Section of this newsletter features, Ms. Molina, our EL Services Coordinator. I know you will enjoy learning a little more about what makes Ms. Molina amazing. In this newsletter we will also share pictures of our Virtual Back to School Night event, Food Distribution Grab and Go Meals Information, and Device Distribution Event.

Food Distribution for NACP Students
Ilda, Gloria, Lola, Judith and Mario have been happily serving Grab and Go Meals to our NACP families. Please stop by the front of the school to Grab free meals for each of your children. You only need to provide your child's name.
This Wednesday, 240 meals were distributed. Parents who stopped by the school to pick up a device for their family took the opportunity to meet our wonderful Cafeteria Support Staff and picked up some yummy meals for their children. We can't thank you enough, this food is purchased for each of our students and we want to make sure they receive it.

Device Distribution and Online Distance Learning
Online Distance Learning Zoom and Google Classroom Learning::
NACP will provide ONE device (Chromebook or Laptop) per family to use for Distance Learning. Students will connect with their teachers and peers for Zoom Classes and will use them to complete online learning.
Please note, students will be on a staggered schedule for Zoom Lessons with their teachers to allow device borrowing between members of the same family. Continue working on assignments provided in the Home Study Packets.
The first few weeks of online Distance Learning will consist of Getting to Know You Activities, rules, expectations and procedures plus training on how to use learning tools. Teachers will also provide Zoom links or live training to help parents navigate Online Learning Platforms. Teachers will then move on to more academic based instruction but will continue to provide Social Emotional Support.
I’ve left the table with the State Instructional Minutes Required by grade level as a reference. Distance learning may include: homework packets (paper pencil type of activities) and Online learning (Zoom, Google, Technology Based).
WEEKLY UPDATE:
- 360 Chromebooks are on back-order or delayed (we check for updates daily)
- NACP will inform families when the rest of the new Chromebooks are available for pick up and will schedule dates for families to come pick up additional devices and/or to exchange devices.
MEET THE EL SERVICES COORDINATOR
Name: Ms. Navelle Molina
Family: My Partner and our dog, Jersey, who is the four-legged love of our lives =)
Favorite Colors: Red, purple, green, and yellow. Black is one of my favorite colors to wear and I love polka dots.
Favorite Foods: I can eat a burger everyday of the week, but I have also come to love fish tacos since moving to California almost 4 years ago.
Favorite Children’s Books: Have You Filled A Bucket Today? It's a simple book, but it reminds us, no matter what age we are, what it means to fill someone's bucket and that it should be part of what you do everyday. It is also a great reminder of just how easy it is to fill someone's bucket and brighten their day, whether it is someone you know or if it's a complete stranger. I love it because it illustrates daily kindness. =)
Favorite Flower: Tulips. Yellow and light pink are my favorites.
Favorite Movies: I think I've watched La La Land at least 20 times since it came out. In addition to that, I can never pass up a comedy, especially a romantic comedy. I also really love heart-warming movies such as The Blindside and It's A Wonderful Life.
Favorite Music/Artists: Depending on what mood I'm in: 80's music, 90's grunge/rock, Pop, Hip Hop, or Classical
Favorite Pastimes: Hiking, yoga, taking Jersey to the beach and playing frisbee, enjoying nature and exploring whenever possible, and of course spending time with my family
Universities Attended and Degrees:
Kean University in Union, New Jersey: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and Psychology
California Lutheran University Masters Degree in Educational Leadership, and Administrative Credential
Years in Education: I've been in the field of education since 2004. I started as an Instructional Assistant, moved onto becoming a classroom teacher where I taught 1st - 4th grade, and I've also served as a Lead Teacher and a mentor to new teachers before coming to NACP as the English Language Development Coordinator, which I am really enjoying.
The quote below is one that comes from someone I've always admired, Maya Angelou. It is a quote that truly resonates with me and is one that anyone can identify with, no matter your age or your circumstance because we are ALWAYS learning.
