The Future of Hardy Elementary
The goal of IWCS is to ensure the students and families at Hardy have equity and access to resources and facilities that are similar to other elementary schools in the county. Hardy Elementary is currently being considered for renovation as proposed by the Isle of Wight County School Board. However, several Hardy parents, students and community stakeholders are requesting to build a NEW Hardy Elementary. What are your thoughts? The Smithfield Times published an article on Wednesday, 3/20 and shared comments from the community and Board of Supervisors on the topic of renovation or replacement. The Hardy Elementary PTA also held a parent input meeting on Monday, March 18th to allow parents to ask questions and provide feedback on the proposed renovation. Please click on the video below to view the presentation to include pictures of Hardy and how our school compares to other schools in the county. Please contact Chelsea Finley @ finley_chelsea@yahoo.com or Laurie Johnsey @ lauriesjohnsey@gmail.com if you would like more information on how you can help. You can also follow the Hardy Elementary PTA Facebook page @ facebook.com/IWCSHardyPTA/
Secondly, did you know that we have future politicians at Hardy? Two of our wonderful mustangs demonstrated GRIT on last Thursday night by presenting to the Board of Supervisors on behalf of the student body at Hardy Elementary. Lucas Waycaster, second grader in Mrs. Wilson's class and Olivia Austin, 4th grader in Mrs. Sawyer's class, both demonstrated Gumption, Resiliency, Integrity and Tenacity by informing the Board of Supervisors on why Hardy should be recommended for renovation.
Lastly, on behalf of the students and faculty, THANK YOU to the Hardy PTA, parent speakers and guests for their support last week at the Board of Supervisors meeting. Attendees from last Thursday's meeting are as follows: Chelsea Finley, Laurie Johnsey, Kristin Hicks, Sarah Johnson, Talley Williford, Will Austin, Matthew Brooks, Alan and Stacy Wujcik, Michelle Miller, Adriene Liggins, Elizabeth Siebenbrunner, Regine Garcia, Carolyn Turnage, Melissa Boyd, Tiffany Jefferson, Alana Jefferson, Deborah Holloway, Matthew Thomas and Ashley Brobst. A special thank you to Mr. Thomas, Mr. Austin, Mr. Wujcik, Mrs. Williford and Mr. Brooks for speaking on behalf of Hardy Renovation. Your support during this process is priceless.
