A message from your Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians

I’d like to welcome you to the 2020-2021 academic year. Although, we are starting this year a little differently we are excited for our students to be returning. We are aware of the difficulties and obstacles that virtual learning presents; we are continuously working to minimize those challenges.

Throughout the summer our dedicated team worked hard to prepare for the start of the year. Parents and guardians were invited over the course of two days for parent- orientation that was also accessible through zoom recording. We were also able to distribute over 480 chromebooks to our students while taking the necessary precautions for the safety of our students and staff. Additionally, we have made many changes in our building to improve safety and create a healthy environment for all, and we continue to improve our infrastructure.

We started school on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, with remote learning for the safety of our students, staff, and parents. All of our teachers are teaching via zoom and are highly qualified for the task at hand. We will revisit our plans and decide whether we will continue remote learning or return to school by October 23, the end of the first quarter.

During this time, the most important thing is timely communication. Our communication channels are abundant as listed below:

Office Phone: 614 428 6564

In person: M-F 7:30 to 4 pm

Email: ms.info@horizoncolumbus.org

If you need further assistance that is class specific, students and parents can email individual teachers. Staff emails can be found in the Concept SIS (our Student Information System, https://grades.ms.horizoncolumbus.org/Login.aspx). If you do not have the user and password, you can call the school to receive it.

We are always here to work with you and educate your child(ren). Please feel free to reach out to us at any time. We are doing our best to provide the best education for all students. We also appreciate your patience with us while we are going through these unprecedented times.

Parent Orientation 2020

If you missed our Parent Orientation last week or want to go over some of the information that Dr. Raschke went over with you, you may review the slides below at your convenience.

Attendance and Truancy 20-21

Dear Parent/ Guardian:

As we begin the 2020-2021 academic school years, our hope is to continue providing our students with the best education. Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic we have decided to start with virtual learning during the 1st Quarter. Despite going 100% virtual, your child’s participation in class is very important and it is the law. All attendance policies from the state are to be followed during this time. Therefore, excessive absenteeism and truancy will be handled in the same manner as if students were physically in school.

Students who are not present in their virtual classes and/or fails to complete assignments may earn hours toward unexcused absences. At that time a person from our team will be in contact with the parent/ guardian as accumulation of unexcused hours may have legal ramifications for you and your child. Please note the following terms

Excessive Absences – is defined as a school age child who is:

a. Absent 38 or more hours in one school month with or without a legitimate excuse

b. Absent 65 or more hours in one school year with or without a legitimate excuse.

Habitual Truancy – is defined as a school age child who is:

a. Absent 30 or more consecutive hours without legitimate excuse;

b. Absent 42 or more hours in one school month without a legitimate excuse; or

c. Absent 72 or more hours in one school year without a legitimate excuse
