Hi Hansen Students, Parents, and Families!

We hope that everyone had a wonderful April break and that you are feeling rejuvenated and ready for the home stretch to the school year! The next several weeks will fly by as there are lots of exciting events and opportunities ahead as we move closer to summer.

Our students returned with great energy and we have had a good first week back. Our 5th Grade students continue to put in many hours in preparation for the Hansen 5th Grade Musical 'The Little Mermaid', and will be performing two shows next Friday and Saturday nights (May 6 and May 7) at the Canton High School auditorium. We will share information on how to purchase tickets in advance and tickets will also be available at the door for any student or family that is interested. We will also have an in-school performance for Hansen students and staff next week during the school day. Good luck to all of our Grade 5 performers and crew!

Please enjoy some of this weeks' Hansen highlights through the pictures below...

Forsyth Kids Dental Program

Dear families,

This year, Canton’s elementary schools will be participating in a dental program with Forsyth Kids . This is a voluntary program that provides at-school dental screenings, sealants, cleanings, and referral support for any family at no cost to the family. This program is great for families who have limited dental coverage, have difficulty scheduling appointments without missing school, or for students who don’t have an established dentist. This program is not required, it is being offered as an additional resource for families.

Inadequate dental care can lead to academic struggles, speech and eating difficulties, social emotional conflicts and poor health outcomes. School based interventions make it easier for students to access this care regardless of insurance coverage. Forsyth’s program helps alleviate the adverse social determinants of health to provide a more equitable environment for students to learn!

Students will receive a permission slip in their backpacks to be sent home. If you would like to enroll your student, please fill out the permission slip and return it to the school’s health office or email it to CoppolaL@cantonma.org. Please fill out the attached permission slip and flyer to participate. Once this is completed, we will notify parents/guardians of site visit dates.

We look forward to a good turnout! Please see the two attachments at the bottom of the update for more information.

Thank you,

Lindsey Coppola, RN

Continued Reminder - Field Day Volunteers Needed!

Hello Hansen community,

The 2022 Hansen Field Day is approaching fast! This year’s Field Day will be on Thursday, June 2nd (with rain date scheduled for Tuesday, June 7th) with 3rd-5th grade students in the morning (approximately 9:15 AM - 11:15 AM) then K-2nd grade students in the afternoon (approximately 12:25 PM - 2:25 PM). Similar to the past several years, students will visit many physically active stations throughout the day. This will be a fun-filled day full of activities promoting cooperation, team building, school spirit, friendly competition, and encouraging sportspersonship. I am excited to run my first Field Day with the Hansen students!

Of course, Field Day cannot be successful without the continued outstanding support from our volunteers. If you are able to help as a volunteer for this year’s Field Day, please fill out the online form (volunteersignup.org/DQTAA) by May 19th. Volunteers will receive more Field Day information as the date approaches. If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please feel free to contact me at osullivans@cantonma.org Thank you in advance for volunteering on this exciting day!

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Sheila O’Sullivan

Bus Registration for 2022-23 is Open!

Registration for bus transportation is now open for the 2022 - 2023 school year! Families should have received emails with a link to register, and anyone that did not is encouraged to reach out to our transportation coordinator, Mrs. Brett McCloud (mccloudb@cantonma.org).

Registration will remain open until May 20.

Canton Art Show is Back!

After two years on hiatus because of Covid protocols, I am excited to share that we are able to host our annual spring art show once again in the CHS gymnasium. As always, the show will include artwork from every art student in the district, PreK-12. The show will be open for students and their families to visit from 6-8pm on Monday, May 23 - Thursday, May 26.

Each evening we will be hosting open studio activities for all ages in the CHS art rooms. This year's show will also feature a silent auction of artwork with proceeds benefiting the work that Doctors without Borders is doing to help Ukrainian refugees. All are welcome!
