Scott 6th Grade Center's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
What Has Been Happening in Mrs. Abgarian's Math Classes?
My students have settled in just perfectly since the start of the school year! We continue to begin each class with timed basic facts review on Xtra Math and lead into IXL where we work on teacher recommendations focused on that week's content. Students are also working diligently on their Spring Math practice Monday-Thursday and enjoy competing with the other classes!
In our class, we strive to use Real-Life Examples. Math can seem abstract and irrelevant to students when they cannot see how it relates to their daily lives. We make use of Technology each day, encourage group work and learn to see math from other perspectives, and of course, use humor and have fun!!
My classes did a fantastic job on Topics 1 and 2 of our curriculum, which we finished up at the end of the 1st marking period. Our topics were as follows:
Block 1: Rational Number Operations and Real Numbers (Integer Operations and Rational/Irrational Numbers)
Blocks 2 & 3: Use of Positive Rational Numbers (Decimal and Fraction Operations)
I have enjoyed getting to know my students during the start of this school year. We have created a kind and positive learning environment in each class and continue to make great strides. I am looking forward to watching my students continue to grow academically. 🙂

Celebrating Academic Growth in Math Using IXL
At our team meetings last Monday, Mrs. Lamothe and Mr. Altland celebrated academic achievement in Math. The top 10 students that showed amazing growth from their beginning of the year diagnostic score to their current fall score were given certificates and applauded in front of their classmates. Congratulations to: Eugene Tiggett, Jena Trexler, Jassiel Sarinana-Ponce, Alexa Torres, Zoe Everitt, Lucas Tavera, Breann McCormick, Abel Osborn, Megan Sheller, and Kaylee Brown.
All students were reminded that IXL is a program designed to help students practice at their academic level. The program responds to support and challenge students with appropriate math problems. Students use IXL at least 2 each week during their WIN classes. Keep up the great work! We are so proud of all of our Scott students!
Kickball Games to Celebrate Good Bus Behavior
Our bus referrals decreased by more than 50%, and we only had a few students that had to stay in the library while their class played kickball. We are so proud of all our students' effort this past month on the bus. Bus Drivers will continue to reward students with ROCKStar tickets for the rest of the school year, and we know our students will continue to make good choices on the way to and from school.
Books and Bingo Literacy Night
It was a great night of learning and fun!
iFLy Field Trips This Week
There was a major miscommunication between iFLY and us regarding students who were allowed to attend this trip. Due to these unforeseen circumstances only students who paid to fly will be able to attend the trip. We will no longer be allowed to take all students. We know this will be a letdown for our students and we do apologize. We will be providing fun alternative activities throughout the day for the students who will not be able to attend the trip. If your student is attending, please make sure they have a packed lunch.
The trips dates and students attending are below.
November 8th - 2nd floor students
November 9th - 4th floor students
November 10th - 3rd floor students
Thank you for understanding

Attendance
We all know how important it is to be in school. Students learn best when they are present for lessons hearing their teachers first hand and discussing information with their classmates. I want to thank our students and families for their efforts with attendance.
It is also important to be in school on time. Students are released to head to their homerooms at 7:15. Our first period starts at 7:25. If students want to eat breakfast, they need to be in school no later than 7:10. (Any students that arrive on busses that arrive after 7:10 will be given the opportunity to eat if they want).
Thank you for reminding your student of these expectations.
Please read the attached article about how to keep your middle and high school student on track with attendance.
