Google Classroom
What is Google Classroom ? Classroom is designed to help teachers create and collect assignments paperlessly, including time-saving features like the ability to automatically make a copy of a Google Document for each student. It also creates Drive folders for each assignment and for each student to help keep everyone organized.
Students can keep track of what’s due on the assignments page and begin working with just a click. Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn't completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback and grades right in Classroom. Get started here !
Room 222 Goes Google
We asked Mr. Murphy some questions about Google Classroom:
- Q: How easy was it for you to set up Google Classrooms up?
- A: Extremely simple to set up considering Cheltenham has Google Apps for Education available to all students and teachers. The students just need to sign into Google and enter the code generated for the teacher's Google Classroom site. The students will then have access to the teacher's Google Classroom page each time they sign into Google.
- Q: What has been the feedback if any from students and/or parents?
- A: The feedback from students has been very positive. The format of Google Classrooms is user friendly and the students became acclimated to the layout within minutes. As of now the parents don't have access to Google Classrooms, as they could with Edmodo, but I am sure the parent access will be available soon.
- Q: What are the biggest benefits of using Google Classrooms?
- A: Having Google Classroom linked to Google Drive is a huge benefit to the students and the teacher. Teachers are able to create assignments within Google Drive and provide each student in the class with an individual copy of the assignment. Once an assignment is posted into Google Classroom a folder is created in the teacher's Google Drive account that will store all the assignments completed by the students automatically. This saves a ton of time! Another nice feature is the ability to return an assignment to the student to make corrections or improvements.
