Friendly Reminders from HES Office Staff:
Morning drop off times, Tuesday-Friday 7:25-7:50.
Please continue to use one lane for morning drop off for the continued safety of students.
Students are to be dropped off on the sidewalk at the Elementary’s front entrance.
Please do not use cell phones during drop off.
At 7:50 the doors to the front entrance will be shut AND locked. Staff are no longer monitoring drop off. The building sign will be placed outside that school is in session.
After 7:50 students being dropped off are counted as late. Parents are responsible for walking their child in to the elementary office and signing their student in.
- If you need to make a change to your child's regular routine for the end of the day, please send a note to the office. Calls are for emergencies, the school office is a very busy place, especially at the end of the day. If you have a schedule change for your student and it is last minute- please call Chellsie no later than 2:30.
Honor Choir Update
Happy February!
Although we have only been able to meet only once in January due to a snow day the first week back and a wellness break the last two weeks for extracurriculars, the Flight Bound Honor Choir is entering a season of exploring new songs to prepare for spring music events. We are determined to continue learning our songs, be resilient during this ongoing pandemic, and keep our spirits up. Please pray that February is better for us!
Regarding upcoming performances, we have been invited to a basketball game at the high school to perform a special song during a home game. The date is yet to be determined, so be on the lookout for updates! We just picked up two new songs that are contest level repertoire, which we will be practicing in preparation for a possible contest entry in March. With student input, we have chosen "Lightning" by Greg Gilpin and "We Can Rise" by Mark Patterson. In addition, we will be performing at the Spokane Choral Concert in conjunction with the middle school and high school choirs on Thursday, March 24th. Please mark your calendars to attend this event -- there will be lots of beautiful music to hear. We look forward to seeing our community come together and experience the breadth of vocal talent from our elementary students to high school students in the Spokane School District.

Jr. Ag at HES
Welcome to the NEW YEAR!
The Junior Ag program started off in full swing with our pork unit. We met on January 12 and watched a great video produced by the Missouri Farm Bureau. I have attached the link in case anyone wants to tune in.

We have had to take a few weeks off for a wellness break so we are looking forward to exploring the life cycle of a pig-the process of farm to fork-and we will end the unit cooking breakfast for the Highlandville Elementary teachers in later Feb. Of course, we will have pork as part of the menu. Stay tuned for more pictures of our pork unit.
February 19-26 is National FFA week and the elementary will be participating with spirit days.
FFA Spirit Week Feb. 22-25:
Tuesday: America Day-wear red, white and blue!
Wednesday: Wear an Ag. shirt OR a shirt with an animal on it!
Thursday: Flannel Thursday- wear a flannel!
Friday: Farmer Friday Kick Up Your BOOTS Day! Wear boots
Remember: In winter's chill or summer's heat-a farmer works so you can eat.

PTO Updates:
2022 is here and we are ready!
Santa Shop was such a success in December! Thank you for the kind donations of wrapping materials for use next year. The PTO board wants to mention Becky Kelley for her amazing commitment to shopping, packaging and pricing the Santa Shop inventory. This is a huge responsibility, and she works on it throughout the year.
PTO is also grateful for the parents that have gone the extra mile to get background checks through the district office. This allowed us to have a few more helpers for Santa Shop. It is wonderful to experience the joy and generosity of our students during this seasonal event. If you would like to help with any PTO event/function, contact PTO.
Owl Kisses will be on sale starting next week. Be on the lookout for the form coming home in student folders. Owl Kisses will be delivered Friday 2/11/2021. Be sure to send your student some love, and they can send Owl Kisses to their friends, teachers, and staff members. Owl Kisses are $1 each.
Please mark your calendars for Carnival 2022 on the evening of May 13th. You may have seen the king and queen candidate form come home in your student’s folder. Candidates will be announced soon. After last year’s Carnival success and overwhelmingly positive response it has been decided to keep this event outside! We all look forward to this fun filled community event. Stay tuned for updates!
