The Green Screen
Yego's classes created a script using a well-known fairy tale but "TMZ-ing" it to find the scandal involved. They practiced their public speaking skills during practice and taping. See some of their work here:
Do you have an idea of how you could use the green screen room? There's a million ways to use it in your classroom from story-telling to interviews to creating advertisements and more. Maybe you're interested but not sure where to start? Check out this link for some ways in which the green screen can be used.
The Best of 2014
The International Reading Association has also published a list of recommended chapter books for middle and teen readers from this past year. Half of the list has been announced and you can catch the second half of the list starting on Dec. 29.
Just in case you find yourself with time to rest and read over the upcoming break, there are some great books on these lists to indulge in! Mrs. Baas and I have both read books from these lists so stop in and ask for our recommendations if you need help deciding what to read next.
Setting Reading Goals
It was about this time last year when I read my 50th book of the year and met my goal for books read during 2013. Every year I set a reading goal for myself through my Goodreads account and then strive to reach it while enjoying a variety of books. I think setting reading goals is an important thing to do for a number of reasons. First, I have found that if I set a personal goal for myself and write it down somewhere or keep track of it, I'm more more motivated to reach it, it gives me some direction on ultimately where I want to end up, and it makes me more self-confident as I stretch myself in pursuit of my goal.
And of course we all know the benefits of reading but for me, one of the most important reasons to read is that is increases my ability to see outside myself, to learn about the world around me, to see other's problems and their solutions to those problems and how they relate to me as a parent, a teacher, a woman, a friend, and more. Books allow me to do that.
As we close in on the end of 2014, I'm going to come up just short of my goal of reading 55 books for the year but I'm not discouraged from not having reached my goal. I've read some great books this year and I'm setting my sights on another 55 books read for 2015! What's your 2015 reading goal going to be? Stop into the Media Center to tell me about it.
Have a restful and relaxing winter break!
