Dear Boehm Families,

I hope this communication finds you well. We wanted to provide you with important updates regarding the upcoming construction. We have a unique opportunity to begin the construction process sooner rather than later, outside the school day. Starting this week from 4:00 PM-12:00 AM, the following items will begin:

• Ceiling tile removal

• Ceiling grid removal

• Hallway lighting will be taken down

• Temporary hallway lighting will be installed

The following safety precautions will be put in place with each phase of this work:

• Plastic containment will be placed along all hallway walls and doors.

• A protective cover will be placed on the floor.

• Extensive cleaning will take place at the completion of each evening’s work.

We are committed to student and staff safety first and foremost. We don't anticipate that this will have any impact on instruction. We will continue to provide updates to our families throughout the process. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 215-428-4220.

Dear Boehm 6th and 7th-Grade Families:

As you are hopefully aware, Charles Boehm Middle School has started a major renovation that will update classroom spaces, the auditorium, HVAC equipment, roofs, and windows. The scope of the renovations will necessitate the relocation of the rising 6th-grade class to the Village Park School for one year. Yesterday, Superintendent Smith and I sent an update to parents of 6th graders for the 2023-23 school year. You can see it here.

The remaining 7th and 8th-grade students will remain at Boehm and may experience some classroom relocations. As the project progresses, we will be working hard to make sure this doesn’t impact the day-to-day impact of instruction. In addition to this letter, I have recorded a video (available here) and a newsletter detailing all of the specifics (available here).

Logistical details:

• 7th and 8th-grade will remain at Charles Boehm for the 2023-24 school year.

• Over the course of construction, classroom locations will be changing throughout the school year, and portions of the building will be closed.

• We will have procedures and protocols in place to keep students and staff safe during the construction process.

• Students will be accessing newly renovated spaces starting in August of 2023!

• Traffic patterns may change throughout the year.

• The entire 6th-grade staff will be moved to Village Park. (6th-grade students will have the same teachers as they would have at Charles Boehm). They will have the same specials and opportunities.

• Updates will be continuously provided throughout the year.

I would like to assure you that we recognize the challenges involved in a renovation project of this size, and the Boehm administration is working hard to ensure that this is a positive experience for our students and staff. Dear families of Boehm rising 6th-grade students:

We are writing to update you on the plans for the rising 6th graders for the 2023-23 school year. As you are hopefully aware, Charles Boehm Middle School has started a major renovation that will update classroom spaces, the auditorium, HVAC equipment, roofs, and windows. The scope of the renovations will necessitate the relocation of the rising 6th-grade class to the Village Park School for one year.

Making sure the transition is a smooth one for all involved is very important to us. In addition to this letter, Principal Bloom has recorded a video (available here) and a newsletter detailing all of the specifics (available here).

We recognize this transition may present a challenge for some students, and we are committed to providing additional support during the transition. Prior to students entering 6th grade in September, there will be dedicated parent nights, student visits, and summer tours, students will also be provided some specialty items (t-shirts) to make their time at “Charles Boehm South” a positive experience.

As you are probably aware, the goal of the middle school team structure is to create a smaller learning environment in a big school. For this group of approximately 220 students, they will have a unique opportunity to build strong relationships with each other and a strong school community. With fewer students in the school, meaningful connections between teachers and students can emerge from day one. We anticipate that this transition will help students create a lasting bond.

Logistical details:

• The entire 6th-grade staff will be moved (They will have the same teachers as they would have). They will have the same specials and opportunities.

• We are planning for after-school shuttles to run between Village Park and Boehm so they can participate in activities at their home school.

• Students will return to Boehm for large-scale events and presentations (e.g. Author visits, pep rallies, etc.).

• We are expecting the students to be transported directly to Boehm South- versus being an added stop on the current middle school run.

• Student academic progress and Socio-emotional support (counselor referrals), and discipline will be monitored on a monthly basis to determine if additional support is needed.

• Village Park will be retrofitted over the summer to support the additional classrooms needed. Smartboard and furniture will be moved over from Boehm.

• Model classrooms will be available for student and parent visits in the spring.
