The Faubion Lion Pride Press

Week of May 9, 2022

Dear Faubion Family,

We hope that you enjoy this week's edition of the Faubion Lion Pride Press. We provided small gestures of appreciation to our teachers throughout the week, which pales in comparison to everything they do for our scholars and the future of our society. Although STAAR testing comes to a close this week, our teachers have engaging activities planned for every instructional day to close out the year. We look forward to seeing our scholars again on Monday, May 9.

Aristotle once said, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit." At Faubion Middle School, we make excellence a habit, and we are kind. Parents, thank you for instilling those values in your children so they can make a lasting and positive mark on our community.

Go Lions!

- Mr. Boom

what parents remember as "mousetrap"

Our 6th grade science scholars constructed Rube Goldberg sequences this past week. This project wrapped up the unit of forces, motions, and simple machines. Kudos to our teachers for creating this fun learning opportunity for our students and to our students for having fun with it!

May the Fourth be with you!

Mr. Smith greets students in the carpool lane in his usual May 4th fashion. While Mr. Smith has a fun personality, do not be fooled. He challenges his scholars to think deeply and consider all of the different scientific perspectives concerning Earth and beyond. Not pictured is Mr. Folts, who provided background music from the Empire Strikes Back.

STAAR is serious business

Our 8th entire 8th grade history team provided encouragement to students in the cafeteria on the morning of the social studies STAAR. Coach Mo is pictured with Jordan Awad, singing karaoke to relax nerves.

Celebrating our Teachers!!!

This past week was Teacher Appreciation Week, and our PTO was a huge help as always. On Monday, our teachers enjoyed a feast of salads feast from Cafe Max (providing leftovers for several days). On Tuesday, Community Education Outreach McKinney provided breakfast tacos! Wednesday our staff enjoyed some grilled burgers. On Thursday, our Sunshine Club sponsored a coffee and drink truck to provide a surge of energy, and on Friday we enjoyed cookies and milk! Thank you to our PTO for being a supportive partner that looks out for our teachers, scholars, and families. Thank you to the best teaching staff in the state of Texas!

Parents, if you have not contributed/joined the PTO, please go to the Faubion PTO website and join! Please visit for all of the latest and greatest information! Mr. Boom says that we have the BEST PTO, so please show them your support!

8th grade promotion ceremony

Our 8th grade promotion ceremony is a significant Faubion tradition. While the event is not a "graduation" per se, we want to honor the work done so far and put a pin in our scholars' academic journey. Designed to be a serene and heartwarming ceremony, 8th grade teachers will lead 8th graders into the auditorium in a procession after parents are already seated.

Please note that there is a strict two-person guest limit per student for this event, and school personnel will be at the doors to ensure that guests attend the correct ceremony. More details will be available soon on which ceremony 8th grade students will attend. For your planning purposes, here is the general outline:

1st Ceremony

Guests in place in auditorium by 9:00 a.m. to enjoy live music by FMS Fine Arts

Student processional begins at 9:10 a.m.

Ceremony begins at 9:15 a.m.

Ceremony ends by 9:45 a.m.

Students and guests exit to the cafeteria, where they have an opportunity to take their own family photo and enjoy a cookie and drink.

All guests need to exit from cafeteria doors prior to 10:15.

2nd Ceremony

Guests in place in auditorium by 10:00 a.m. to enjoy live music by FMS Fine Arts

Student processional begins at 10:10 a.m.

Ceremony begins at 10:15 a.m.

Ceremony ends by 10:45 a.m.

Students and guests exit to the cafeteria, where they have an opportunity to take their own family photo and enjoy a cookie and drink.

All guests need to exit from cafeteria doors prior to 11:15.

We look forward to seeing our 8th grade families on May 20, and please stay tuned for more details.

The STAAR tests will be administered in May, beginning with 8th grade Science on May 5. Once the results come back, we will communicate with you as to whether your child is required to attend. The summer school curriculum will be offered on an online platform (APEX) and will be used to help students close academic learning gaps.

Physical Needed for Athletics/Cheer/Drill

Good afternoon Parents!

Every student in athletics will have to have a physical dated on or after April 1, 2022 to participate for the 2022-2023 school year. If your student is NOT participating in athletics/cheer/drill team then please disregard this message!

Physicals must be completed on the GREEN MISD Physical form, which we began passing out today. Students can either get one from a coach in the gym or at the FMS front office.

You are welcome to get a physical exam from a doctor of your choosing or you may take part in the McKinney ISD physical exam days! All exams are $20 (cash only). Please see the attachment for more information!

Rankone documents are now available online. All of the forms must be completed to participate in the orientation and athletics. You must have your child's Student ID, you will use digits only, not the S.

  • MISD Health & Safety Form
  • UIL Forms Signature Page

Please copy and paste the link below.

Current 7th Graders

We highly encourage any student that plans on participating in athletics next year, to complete and turn in the physical before summer. Rankone documents can also be completed for next year, starting April 1st. If these are completed before summer, it is one less thing to worry about before next school year begins. I will also be available to answer any questions.

Current 8th Graders

We highly encourage the current 8th graders to get their physicals completed at the High School that they plan to attend. This will allow trainers to keep the physicals of incoming 9th graders. It will also allow students to meet and talk to coaches and trainers that they will be working with the next 4 years. Rankone documents will also be available on April 1st.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and have a good weekend.

Faubion Middle School Model of Learning

McKinney ISD provides a district-wide standard, called the Model of Instruction, which guides teacher teams in planning, instruction, and classroom culture. With input from our extended leadership team, we created a standard for scholarly behavior in every classroom. Our teachers use the Model of Learning, guiding students on how to behave and think as a scholar. This model reinforces the characteristics of a McKinney ISD graduate.
