Smith Green Team

Students+Staff+Families Working Together

Working to become a certified Michigan Green School!

During this first year of the Smith Green Team efforts, we are hopeful that our recycling efforts, garden projects, environmental education and energy savings will qualify Smith School as a Michigan Green School!

Coming in January...

We will be collecting loose change in a Change Challenge, using the proceeds to purchase recycling containers for our school. We will begin by recycling plastic bottles in receptacles placed throughout the school and in the lunchroom.

Our team would also like to ask families to send in their plastic caps so that we can use them to create artwork for the school and possibly to sell in fundraisers. More info to follow!

Student Council

The Smith Student Council will be supporting the Green Team efforts this year. Ideas they are considering include adopting an endangered species and working on a bird sanctuary to compliment our beautiful garden!

Other Green Team plans this year:

How can students get involved?

All Smith students may be a part of the Green Team. We will have a school-wide energy inventory in April. Students will also create and view posters and PSAs promoting environmental responsibility. We are also hoping to create a Green Team t-shirt, made of organic cotton and printed with non-toxic dyes, that will be available for purchase and help promote our efforts.

Paper Recycling

Our students are helping our school recycle paper each week. Parents, you can help the planet and Smith School by recycling your paper in our green and yellow dumpster. We earn money when you recycle!

Let's work together as

Smith goes Green!
