Principal's Message
As a teacher, coach, and principal it is important for me to keep in mind that the most important things that I can provide for anyone are teachable moments. This time of year reminds us of this idea as it is without saying how many fond memories the holidays tend to provide for us. Many people would say that there is magic found in the holidays. I truly believe that this is because of the moments created by loving people in our lives to make things special and memorable to us this time of year.
This “magic” or creating moments is something that I experience and see on a daily basis at Lincoln. The amount of selflessness and love that the staff has for our students is truly amazing.
The moments are many and very special here at Lincoln Elementary. Some that I have noticed over the past few weeks have been…
In P.E. I have seen disco bowling and a cool adaptation of blind bowling?... All I know is that the kids were having a great time!
In art we have canvas painting right now and man, does Mrs. Keen know how to get those kids motivated to paint some beautiful art!
In tech our students have been building different objects found in the world with many different formats… one being the Empire State building! It reached almost to the ceiling!
In music our older students totally rocked out their performances on Monday! Way to go all involved!
In kindergarten we have been having the Grinch and Gingerbread man make their way into the class for some different learning moments! It has been fun watching the kids really get into their learning.
In first grade I have been watching the students write, write, write! I am so impressed with their ability this early in the year! They also have shown off some of their amazing art skills with their illustrations.
A moment that is special for the second graders is when I go see them fired up to work on Karate! Yup, math karate! Also, I see and hear the amazing songs coming from Mr. Tippett’s room!
My time with the third graders has been lovely as the idea of thankfulness and empathy have been talked about at length. I have noticed many of them thinking of others and making strong connections.
Toys for Tots bake sale has been a huge success and a great way for our fourth grade students to understand responsibility working the sale and also working hard for giving to others. What a cool thing for them!
Finally, the fifth graders keep humming along with their studies and their strong leadership skills. I can’t say enough how well they are doing with safety patrol thanks to Mrs. Friske and Mrs. Daniel. They are great leaders for our school. I am very proud!
We will continue to “take a moment, to make a moment” for others throughout the year. Thank you to the parents, staff and students for making Lincoln, “The best place to be!”
It's the most wonderful time of the year...
-RSV
-Croup
-Hand, Foot and Mouth
-Flu
-Strep throat
-Stomach flu
-Pink eye
As always please be sure to keep kiddos home until they are fever free and no vomiting for a full 24 hours.
Thank you and stay healthy.
Toys and Electronics
Please...no toys, trading cards or electronic devices should come to school with students. They could be lost, broken or be a distraction to learning. Cell phones are allowable, but may not be used during the school day absent an emergency. Thank you.
Headlice
We have experienced very few head lice issues this year due to the diligent home inspections done by parents. Your school Family appreciates that effort.
If lice are found, please make sure they get the appropriate treatment.
Winter weather and recess
Absent extreme weather conditions, Lincoln kids play outside every day throughout the winter. Please make sure your child comes to school prepared for Northern Michigan’s changing weather conditions. (The school does not have clothing to loan to students.)
