The Fairview Connection

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
This past week, Fairview students had the opportunity to attend the virtual Veterans Day assembly that was organized and orchestrated by local veterans and the Village of Mount Prospect. The assembly was both educational and inspirational, and we very much appreciated the opportunity to participate! 5th grade students in Mrs. Noll’s class had the opportunity to take part in the assembly on behalf of Fairview as they shared words of thanks to the veterans who were present at Village Hall. On behalf of the Fairview staff, I would like to say thank you to all of the veterans who are part of the Fairview community. We appreciate your service to our community and to our country.
Looking forward to next week, our school will have another exciting opportunity as we will be hosting our first PTO sponsored assembly of the year. Cris Johnson will be presenting for the students his show entitled Superhero Science on Wednesday afternoon. Teachers will show students how to access his Zoom link at the designated grade level time. As part of the show, Cris invites students to participate from home with some of the demonstrations he is explaining. This is optional, however, if you’d like for your child to have a chance to do so, please have him or her bring a few sheets of paper, a pen or Sharpie, an empty toilet paper roll, 15 plastic shower curtain rings tied in a bundle to one end of a 2-3 foot length of strong string (if possible), and a wooden spoon, thin marker or unsharpened pencil. I’m excited to see how all of this will be put to use! No need to worry if you cannot locate all of these materials, as the show will still be very engaging even if students are just watching. Special thanks to the PTO for their generosity and organization in bringing this assembly to our school for our students to enjoy!
As a reminder, first trimester report cards are being mailed out today. You should receive your child’s report card sometime early next week. Please let us know if it does not arrive at your home. Contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about the report card. Typically this would also be the time of year when we hold parent teacher conferences to talk more about student progress. With the uncertainty of whether or not we will be starting in person, I do not have a firm update as to when these will be held just yet. Once we are given direction as to if and when we will start with our hybrid model of instruction, we will communicate our plans related to conferences at that time.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
RETURN-TO-SCHOOL TASK FORCE
District 57 will be forming a Return-to-School Task Force in order to provide input to the Board of Education about what the return to school might look like in the future. The Return-to-School Task Force will meet 1-2 times per month beginning in December and will meet for a total of 4-5 times. Meeting times will alternate between 3:30-4:30 PM or 7-8 PM and will be held remotely via ZOOM. Representation on this committee will consist of representatives from District 57 parents, staff, and administration.
Each PTO President has been asked to help identify potential task force members from their school community. If you are interested in being considered as a parent/guardian representative for Fairview Elementary, please email Suzanna Biasi at suzannabiasi@yahoo.com by Friday, November 20, 2020, at 4 PM. Please provide your first and last name, email and phone number, ages of your D57 students, and general background and interest in serving on this Task Force. The District is looking for a broad representation of viewpoints and backgrounds and will be following up with nominated parents/guardians. You do not need to be a PTO Member to be considered.
Thank you for your help with this important process.
Kind regards,
Dr. Elaine Aumiller
