Principal Weekly Update
February 25th, 2022
THE SEASON OF LENT
In the coming week, we enter the season of Lent. Lent is a 40-day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It is a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer by reading Sacred Scripture; we serve by giving alms; and we practice self-control through fasting. We will observe Ash Wednesday at school with our Celebration which will be led by our grade 2A and 5/6 students virtually. Students will receive their ashes directly in their rooms from their teachers.
Students in all grades will be interacting with their own Lenten journey throughout this period.
SHROVE TUESDAY - PANCAKE BREAKFAST
We are very excited to prepare and provide a breakfast of pancakes with our students on Tuesday, March 1 to celebrate Pancake Tuesday. OUr staff will be flipping pancakes early in the morning and we hope to serve the students prior to 9am. We still recommend that your child have a small breakfast prior to coming to school as usual.
TEACHERS' CONVENTION - NO SCHOOL MARCH 3 & 4
All teachers in the Greater Edmonton will attend the annual Greater Edmonton Teachers' Convention on Thursday, March 3rd and Friday March 4th. Teachers will attend virtual sessions on a wide variety of topics designed to build capacity in chosen areas and develop professional skills and methods.
MISSION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT - GR 8 RELIGION
Our grade 8's have been learning about the Mission of the Holy Spirit, collaborating in groups to deepen their understandings of how the Holy Spirit brings us closer to God and reveals Him to us.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Throughout February, our staff and students are proudly recognizing and celebrating Black History Month. This is a chance for our Division to honour the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities. Students of all grade levels at Holy Family engaged with experiences that highlighted many facets of interacting with and processing information, working to understanding how this affects all of us in a community.
Investigating the history, the music, the stories, the successes and challenges, the literature, art and academia of our Canadians has provide rich and relevant learning opportunities to all of our students and staff and we are grateful for the chance to look deeper into our history as Canadians from this perspective. I have included a few photos and descriptions below for you to see.
