Week of May 14th
Graham High School Celebrates In-Demand Jobs Week
During the week of May 7, Graham High School participated in the first In-Demand Jobs Week sponsored by the Ohio Department of Education to celebrate the work force and assisting in sharing information in order to assist students in becoming career or college ready. During the course of the week, students were given the opportunity to gather information and participate or observe demonstrations .
Our Class of 2019 started the week off with with groups of students being Yellow Belt Trained through Lean Six Sigma. The training was conducted by Rob Dickerson, Brian Ebersold, Adam Mowery and Emily Smith who participated in a train the trained model in order to become certified to lead the sessions. Students learned about the problem solving curriculum and created scenarios to solve as a team.
Throughout the week Ohio Hi-Point and satellite programs provided opportunities for students to see demonstrations. Demonstrations were conducted through using the virtual welder, observing SMART Technology and Outdoor Careers. Our satellite programs hosted Mercy Hospital, welding information sessions from Hobart, and drone demonstrations. Sophomores accepted to Ohio Hi-Point also participated for a full day in their programs.
Tony Sells and Kim Pence led Public Service Day by sharing information and equipment of the workforce through supplies shard by JSP Fire Department and the Champaign Sheriff Department.
Students throughout the week also had opportunities to participate in a Reverse Job Fair, Toastmasters (an organization focused on assisting individuals in becoming stronger communicators,) and sessions led by supporting members from Ohio Means Jobs to support students in awareness of programs available to them.
Thank you to all of our school and community partners in providing these experiences to our students!
Second Annual Falcon Signing Day
Juniors to Work Towards Yellow Belt
During In-Demand Jobs Week, Graham High School Juniors will work towards Yellow Belts in Lean 6 Sigma. The training will provide students a fundamental understanding of the practices used through Lean 6 Sigma. In the case of many organizations, the person who has a Yellow Belt certified training is also an SME or “subject matter expert”. He or she can become a central team member on an individual project or multiple projects. Students participating in this class also become familiar with the fundamental tools associated with Six Sigma. The goal of the Yellow Belt training is to give students the necessary tools required in order to become a valuable player within a company’s larger goals and objectives.
