A Note from Mrs. Phillips

Welcome to the cold days of February!

We have many great things ahead! Please see all the dates below to follow all of our current events. With this cold weather and the Bengals loss, we need to bring a little sunshine our way. We will have spirit days during the week of Feb. 6th-10th. This is just a fun way to let our students show off their favorite team/team colors and root on the Chiefs and Eagles. We will also be collecting cans for our "super bowl" food drive. More information will come from our K-Kids.

CoGat testing will take place between Feb. 6th-17th for grades K, 2 and 6. This test helps our teachers establish differentiated instruction based off of percentile ranks. It also establishes students that could be labeled gifted and talented. There is no practice for the test as it is an indicator of cognitive ability. Attached later in the newsletter are the dates and times your child will be testing.

Jacy House will once again be in our building for body safety lessons for grades K-2. There was an opt out letter that was sent in last week's Thursday folder. Please let your teacher know if you have any questions.

We have to thank Mrs. Haffner and retired FCE teacher, Mrs. Hazelrigg, for putting together the Star Lab presentations. Star Lab will be in the building Feb. 10th-15th. All students will be able to learn about our constellations and hear the stories from our two amazing teachers. Thank you for taking time away from your classroom to give our Hornets a chance to experience Star Lab. This year, we will not have a Science Night with the Star Lab. We have moved our date to early Spring and will share that with you when the time gets closer.

My goal is to be as transparent as possible as your leader. If there is anything we can do better, please let me know. You can always message me on Dojo, Facebook or Twitter. I am also available by email and phone. I will return your communication within 24 hours. I am thankful for your continued support of both your child and our school community! Thank you for filling out the parent survey. There is still time if you'd like to provide feedback. The link is provided in Class Dojo school story.
