Hesse Media Center Matters
August 2023
WELCOME BACK!
Mrs. Sikes and Mrs. Ingram have morning and afternoon duties, DO NOT send students to the media center.
Media Center Info
Teacher Devices/Technology
- ALL teachers will get a laptop (if you haven't goten yours, please come check one out). Right now, Paras can get a Chromebook.
- Desktops are being phased out and not replaced. Once your has died, your laptop will take the place of it on your desk (and we will put in an order for a 'docking' station for this).
- ALL teachers that do have a desktop should have a camera/speaker bundle (come get yours).
- ALL teachers should have the ViewSonic Board remote and pen combo. DO NOT throw away the bag & directions for it. (come get yours)
- We do have T-Mobile Wifi devices for teachers AND students. (come get one)
- These items will be turned in at the end of the school year!
2023-2024 Yearbooks
Begin taking those photos for this school year!! Make sure you put them in a google folder and share them with us!!
Technology
3rd grade-8th grade will be given Chromebooks. PreK-2nd grade will have iPad. Students who were here last year, will be given the same device (unless it was condemned). Every device AND charger WILL BE labeled with the students' names.
- DO NOT USE duct tape to label anything electronic (chargers included)-this took us TOO long this summer to remove the residue.
- DO NOT REMOVE our labels and barcodes that are placed on devices! If a student has a device without a barcode or name tag, SEND them down ASAP to get a new one.
Parents should go to PowerSchool and fill out the 2 forms for technology.
- Family Protection Plan (yes or no must be checked)
- Student Device Form (yes or no must be checked) Yes-to get a device from us. No-they are providing a device.
Payments for FPP can be done on SchoolCashOnline.
If a student damaged a device last year and still owes money, they will not be given a device until this charge is taken care of. We do have a list of those that still owe us AND we've added it to their SchoolCashOnline already.
DEVICES are NOT to go home until we have the Student Device Loan Form completed on Powerschool (wait until after August 30).
We will have loaner Chromebooks that can be checked out to a student if they forget their device (must come PRIOR to 10am). These MUST be returned by the END OF THAT SCHOOL DAY (prior to 3:00).
Students should NOT be sharing devices. (but can use same chargers) These devices are checked out to a specific student and only that student should be using it. That student is responsible for any damages that may occur. This also wrecks havoc on saved passwords, especially on iPads.
If you have desktop computers in your room you'd like removed, email us and we will try to come get them from your room. Since we are 1 to 1 with students, they will NOT be replaced by the district.
Student Technology Loan Form & Family Proctection Plan
Technology Protection Plan (Insurance) Form must also be filled out by parents. If they have indicated yes for insurance, they will need to follow the directions on the form and go to SchoolCashOnline.com to pay the $25. PLEASE encourage parents to pay this. There is a deadline to purchase this (September 12).

Ask students if they have their cards. If students have a picture day id with bar code, those may work as well.
Prior to any students coming to the media center, TEACHERS MUST SHOW THE ORIENTATION video to students. (video will be emailed out soon). If you'd like an in house orientation, email Mrs. Sikes.
Remember these rules:
- 4 STUDENTS per class will be allowed in media center at one time.
- Please note that we do have an 8th grade Broadcasting class in here each morning.
- Must bring Library Card for self check out
- MUST have a pass
- We will send any students back to class that are playing in the media center
- **We recommend you send them with a class timer that they hand to us when they enter the media center.
If students remember how to reserve books, they may go ahead and do that. We will try to deliver them to the class until we can orientation for everyone.
Poster Printer & Laminating
Laminating is being done as it is brought down. Put your name on it with a sticky note. When completed, it is placed on the stools right inside the media center. Check back with us for it.
