All Record Consensus
K-12
Big Idea
When working in teams, students take turns stating an answer. If there is consensus, all teammates write the answer. This is a great strategy to support team brainstorms where all voices are honored.
Directions
1. Teacher provides a question with multiple possible answers or multiple questions, then selects a student on each team to begin.
2. Selected student suggests the first answer.
3. Teammates put thumbs up, or hand flat to indicate agreement, disagreement, or doubt.
4. If teammates agree, all students write the answer on their own paper. If there is disagreement or doubt, the team discusses the answer until agreement is reached.
5. Process is continued, each student in turn suggesting an answer.
Variation Ideas
This strategy is great to use when you are brainstorming or narrowing down to an answer that the team wants to agree on. Ideas could be; author's purpose, problem/solution, cause/effect, important details, main idea, strategies for solving problems, procedures/steps, the list goes on. This strategy is about ensuring all voices are heard in a team and working on listening to one another's thoughts and ideas.
