MARINER MEMO
11/4 - 11/10/2022
LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I hope that students had a great day on Friday and were able to rest while the rain was falling! Our staff had an incredible day of learning together. Having time and a space to meet together and learn more about how to support all students is vital.
Next week, we will start a trial of having one lunch. All students and staff will have first lunch starting Monday. We will then collect feedback and data on how it goes to make a determination about continuing. Having one lunch allows students to see their friends rather than being divided between two lunches. It also allows all staff to eat together and have more connection and community. There are several other reasons we are looking at this an option. The schedule is below.
Friday, November 11, Veteran's day, we do not have school. This is a day set aside to honor our veterans. We will have multiple activities throughout the week to honor veterans connected to the Sehome community and to learn more about veterans. See the graphic below for additional information on our Veteran's day celebrations.
Thursday was the end of first quarter. Teachers are working to finalize first semester grades. Progress reports will be coming out next week. If you have questions about performance in class or grades, please encourage your child to reach out to their teacher.
Let's make it another great week!
Sonia Cole
Principal

SEHOME LACROSSE PLAYERS!
For those of you that know me, my name is Garrett Goshorn. I was the head coach for Sehome in 2021, and I will be returning this fall and spring for another year (and hopefully many more to come!). I am a Stanwood High School and Western Washington University alumni, where I found success both with my teams and as an individual. While at Western, our best finish was 3rd place nationally and during my senior season I managed to receive 1st team all-conference midfield honors. Right before that season, I played box lacrosse for the Portland River Monsters where we also placed 3rd nationally in what was then the IBLA, now it’s the NABLL. After that season, I created my own semi pro team, the Everett Express. I was the founder and general manager from 2017-2021 and still help with that, but I took time away to move to the Czech Republic in Central Europe to compete in their national box lacrosse league. During my time there, I competed against some of the best players in Europe, grabbing 3rd place in the Czech National League, 3rd place in the Frank Menschner Cup in Prague 2nd place in the Dalmatia Cup in Croatia. I was the head coach of the Irish Women’s National Team at the inaugural Shebox Lacrosse event in Prague, where they reached 2nd place, and lastly, I competed with Team Alberta in the Ales Hrebesky Memorial, where we got 4th place.
It was an amazing year of growing and learning as a player and I am SO excited to bring this knowledge back to you here at Sehome. We are going to kick things off this fall from November 8th to December 1st.
Practices will be held from 6-8pm on the upper Sehome fields every Tuesday and Thursday during this time. We are going to focus on getting our lacrosse sticks back in our hands, refamiliarizing ourselves with our teammates and coaches both old and new, and overall we are going to start preparing for an exciting and competitive spring season. Last time I coached you, you boys went 8-2, so I hope your expectations are as high as mine! New or potential players don’t be shy, you are just as valuable to this team as our most experienced veterans. Come out and join us, this team is a brotherhood you won’t want to miss out on, and I am so excited to be back with you all soon!
Coach Garrett
