Greetings NPS Parents,

Today, I hosted a meeting with leaders from across Norman and also participated in a meeting with the Oklahoma State Department of Education to discuss preparations regarding the coronavirus, known as COVID-19. Rest assured, this is our most pressing issue and we are all taking it very seriously.

My top priority is the health and safety of our students, staff, and families across the community, which includes vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those who have underlying health issues. I understand the role our schools play in the community. I am working diligently to ensure we make the best possible decisions with the information and guidance provided by federal, state and local health officials.

School closure update

Please be aware that this is a rapidly changing situation and there is the possibility that schools could close. We encourage you to begin making preliminary arrangements should school closures occur. We encourage you to stay connected over the break by checking for district updates in your email or online at www.normanpublicschools.org/health. We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available and we follow up with additional information prior to Monday, March 23.

Spring Break Travel

As a reminder, the CDC states that people who travel to Level 2 and 3 countries must self-quarantine for 14 days upon return. This applies to all students, teachers and other school or district staff. Additionally, the CDC has recommended that travelers, particularly those with underlying health conditions, defer all cruise ship travel. Regarding travel within the United States, families who return from areas with a high concentration of COVID-19 cases should plan to quarantine their children for 14 days prior to returning to school.

We understand the growing concern regarding the coronavirus and we remain in frequent conversations with state and local health officials. We will continue to closely monitor this situation and will keep you updated as the situation evolves.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nick Migliorino

Superintendent
