Academics
ELA
Our 1A friends have wrapped up our unit on sun, moon, and stars by writing a poem on the different stages of the sun. This week, we began a brand new module on learning about the different body parts of birds. In this unit, we develop our research skills as we examine informational or nonfiction texts to learn more about birds. We will also be looking at how nonfiction text features (e.g. heading, photographs, headings, captions, etc.) help us better understand what we are reading. Our 1A friends will become bird experts as we observed photographs and watched a live video of birds to notice its shape, size, color and body parts.
Alex and Breece peer editing each other's poems
Malachi and Dash read each other's Sun poems
Jeremiah and Aubrei working hard to help each other edit and revise

We also need to label the body parts of our birds

Math
Liam, Molly, and Lilly use base 10 blocks to show the place value of a number
We are using "sticks and circles" as an efficient way to show our place value understanding

Phonics & Sight Words
For example, a word such as "sink" with the glued sound of /ink/ would be tapped as /s/ (one tap) /ink/ (one tap with three fingers glued together). We have included the glued sounds that we have learned in the attachment below. When practicing these sounds, students should say the letters first, then the keyword, and then the sound (I.e. a-n-g, fang, /ang/). The activity included will help students discriminate between -nk and -ng glued sounds, as they often sound very similar. The Fundations writing grid is also included, in case you would like to practice writing sentences with your child.
