CUB CONNECTON - SEPTEMBER 5, 2022 - ISSUE #4
Hello Cub Families! I hope that everyone is enjoying the three-day weekend!
Thank you for a WONDERFUL first week of school at Clear View Elementary!! Dismissal on the first day was slow and wet, but each day we got a little quicker as we worked on our processes. Thank you all for your patience and your communication! We have ordered signage for the parking lot to direct traffic through the carpool line and we hope it will be installed soon. I'd like to ask all of our carpool parents to make sure you are following the flow of traffic through the parking lot, and if you are the first to arrive, please stop at the last curve and do not block our main driveway in-front of the building. Staff will let cars know when to move up to begin the drop-off/pick-up process. We need to leave that driveway open for traffic until we begin carpool.
This week many of our students began getting their 1:1 laptops. Those that have not, will do so during their Media or Computer Lab times early in the week. Our kindergarten students should be getting their tablets in the near future. Over the next three weeks, students in all grade levels will be participating in beginning of the year assessments in Reading and Math. using these devices. All students, K-5, will take the iReady Math Diagnostic Assessment. This will be done during class time. Students in third grade will take the Beginning of Grade Reading Test, which is a state requirement. Mrs. Esemann, our assistant principal, will be sending special information regarding this assessment to parents of our third grade students. Our K-3 students will also participate in Reading diagnostic assessments as well. With the exception of the third grade BOG, we spread these out over multiple sessions/days to avoid any stress on our students. These assessments are completely diagnostic and help to inform planning and instruction at each grade level.
Parents who signed up to assist in forming our Clear View Parent Teacher Organization will receive an email invitation from me this week, for our initial planning meeting and election of officers. That date has been on the calendar and the meeting will take place on September 13th at 6:00 pm.
Please mark your calendars for our first Coffee with the Counselors Meeting, which will be on September 15 at 9:00 am.
Lastly, please tell your students to be on the lookout for information regarding the naming of our Cub. We will be taking name suggestions from all students, working with a committee of fifth grade students to narrow the list down and then voting as a student body on the name of our CUB!
On behalf of the staff of Clear View, once again, thank you for a great first week. We welcome communication and embrace the idea that we are partners with you in your child's education.

OUR SCHOOL VISION
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH
Since 2015, school meals have cost $1.25 for breakfast and $2.25 for lunch. Due to the increased costs of food and labor, starting in the 2022-2023 school year, lunch prices will increase to $2.50. Breakfast will remain $1.25.
With paid meal service returning, it is important that families prepare ahead of the new school year. If you have questions about meal service for the 2022-2023 school year, including how to apply for meal benefits starting in July or add money to your student’s account, please contact the OCS School Nutrition office at 910-455-2211. Click on the links below to apply for Free and Reduced lunch or to add money to your student's lunch account.
SCHOOL FEE INFORMATION
Recent changes to School Fees have eliminated the $5.00 Instructional Fee and the $1.00 Art Fee for elementary students. The only school fee that will be required of elementary students will be the $25.00 computer fee. Fee Waivers are available in the main office after the start of the school year.
