P2P Year In Review
2019-2020 Peer to Peer Program Stats
- 14 School districts with Peer to Peer (P2P) programs
- 32 Schools with P2P Programs
- 11 Accredited P2P Programs in Genesee County (3 new!)
- 243 students with ASD receiving P2P support
- 790 students providing P2P support
- 193 other students with IEPs receiving P2P support
- $2,325 awarded to local P2P programs to help develop or expand their programs
- Our first annual Peer to Peer Summit took place in October 2019. We were the first county in the State to hold such an event! See more here!
- Peer to Peer Roundtables continue to help with support for development and sustainability of P2P programs. We are a model site that will be expanded across the state of Michigan!
The 2019 LINK Summit
- Nearly 80 students participated
- Three school districts (Bendle, Mt. Morris, and Grand Blanc)
- The event took place at the Ligon Outdoor Learning Center
- Students rotated through various team building stations scattered throughout the woods
- A whole group conversation was facilitated at the summit allowing LINKs and students with ASD to share their experiences
Planning is currently in place for the 2020-2021 LINK Summit. Please stay tuned!

START P2P Community of Practice
The START P2P Community of Practice meeting brings together P2P leaders from around the state to collaborate and brainstorm all things P2P. The topics the group covered this year included:
- How to write peer supports into the IEP
- Aligning State Standards with P2P Programs
- Connecting students virtually
- Participation vs. Helper model
- FAQ section on START website for P2P
- Sustainibility of P2P Programs
- Including LINKs in IEP's
- P2P Support Plan Templates

2020-2021 P2P Events
The GISD will also be hosting a fall and spring P2P Round Table event. Dates will be announced in upcoming Smore Newsletters. Please keep a look out and remember, P2P funding opportunities are available for those that attend!
