Mrs. Greene's 3rd Grade
March 15, 2019
Another Great Week!
Usually losing one hour of sleep due to Daylight Savings Time wreaks havoc on a teacher with lots of sleepy students...Not this group! They came to school last Monday rarin' to go! I love their energy, but they sure do wear me out!
We moved desks around in the classroom in preparation for the iRead test on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Students are sitting in rows which makes it more difficult for them to be tempted to look at another student's computer screen when they are having difficulty with a test item - not that any of MY students would do that. It's the iRead RULES!
We will visit the SRE Book Fair on Monday, March 18 to preview the selection of books. Your child is free to visit the book fair any day next week if they have money to purchase books.
Did you know there are 9 school days left until Spring Break? We will work extremely hard up until the very last minute!
That's all I have for now...
Enjoy your weekend!

March Birthdays!
Here is What is Planned for March 18-22
Reading: Character Studies
- Reading one or more articles and using the information from both sources to respond to a prompt
- Non-fiction text structures
- Non-fiction text features
Writing: Constructed Responses
Lots of amazing writing is taking place in Room 9. A skill that we need lots of practice on is responding to a prompt. Students have to be able to decide if they are being asked to write a narrative, expository, or opinion piece, then make a plan for their writing, then construct their piece. THAT IS A LOT and it is very challenging. We are taking baby steps each day learning how to do this!
Science: Rocks and Minerals
- We are exploring the properties of ROCKS and comparing properties among many different rocks.
- We are learning how rocks are formed.
Math: Unit 7 - Fractions
- You should have received your child's graded Unit 6 Math test.
- We will work on fractions of a number line and comparing fractions next week!
