CIS Weekly Update

August 30-September 3

As we begin September, academics will start to pick up for students. It is important for all students to get into a regular routine of reading and completing any nightly homework (along with charging their Chromebook). I know many students are busy with extracurriculars and this can make for long evenings. THANK YOU to our parents and guardians for helping support your students each night.

As you may know, we've had many students out on quarantine over the past week. This presents challenges for our students, families, and teachers. We are all working hard to make sure we can support all learners no matter their circumstances. I hope our quarantine numbers start to go down and we can get students back in the building. CIS is the best place for students to learn and interact with their peers and teachers.

Our Board of Education decided last night to make some changes to our school plan. This includes having students and staff wear masks for the next three weeks. The hope is that less students will be quarantined or impacted by COVID-19. In three weeks, our Board of Education will reevaluate the situation and discuss our next steps.

Open House has been canceled this week. Instead, our teaching teams are working on videos to introduce themselves and share any pertinent information with families. Once teams are done creating their videos then we will send them out to you.

If at any time you have questions or need help then please reach out.

Have a FANTASTIC week!

Brandon Cobb, Principal

Mark your calendars for the 1st PTO Meeting of the year! It will take place on Thursday, September 9 @ 9:30am. Information regarding the location and/or virtual meeting link will be available prior to the meeting. Snacks and drinks and a giveaway will be part of this meeting. We're looking forward to seeing you at the meeting!

This past Friday we had our first bear paw drawing. Students earn bear paws for living the Grizzly Way expectations throughout the building. Students are randomly selected on the morning announcements. They then get an opportunity to pick something from the prize cart. Way to go to all of our winners!

Please take a look at the attached documents. These documents will be used to guide our decision making at CIS regarding COVID-19 and illness. It is important that you keep your child home from school if he/she isn't feeling well. Our families did a great job last year, so we are hopeful we can continue that this year. If you have any questions then please reach out to us.

Please remember that if your child is going to miss school because of a vacation, then you will need PRIOR approval from Mr. Cobb. Please email him in advance and request that the absence be listed as "excused". For more information regarding attendance please check out the Student Absence Brochure.

Our attendance clerk, Kelsey Lanham, is the contact person for calling off your student and any change of dismissal plans throughout the day. Her email address is and the phone number to her desk is 330-335-1481. We recommend you let the attendance desk/teacher know when your student is going to be absent, leaving early or arriving late. Letting us know when your child is going to leave early allows us to be prepared for when you arrive. Thank you for your efforts!

Students (and staff) are encouraged to wear motivational shirts on Mondays and Red/White (Grizzly or CIS) gear on Fridays. This will be encouraged throughout the school year along with additional spirit days throughout the school year.

Students are permitted to bring their cell phones to school. However, they need to put them away when they enter the building and store them in their lockers during the day. Once they exit the building, at the end of the day, then they are permitted to use them. During the school day our students shouldn't use their cell phones to contact home if they aren't feeling well. Students are encouraged to go to the clinic if they aren't feeling well. This helps us keep track of students and prevents the office from being surprised when a parent/guardian shows up unexpectedly.
