Latest District Update
From Nurse Jennifer
Dear Dallas School District Staff,
I appreciate all the communication and questions I have received regarding our District response to the reduction of the spread of infection of COVID-19 on our campuses.
I am maintaining close contact with our District Administration and with the team at Polk County Public Health to promote our health and safety while at work. The OHA Guidelines to promote infection prevention are being followed on all campuses.(see links below)
The primary defense against the spread of this virus is the behavior of individuals. Please wash your hands frequently; wear a mask in public settings; clean the high touch surfaces in your work areas, and do not come to work if you are ill.
Remember that COVID-19 is primarily a respiratory disease and has many similar symptoms to influenza (the flu).
- Primary symptoms include Oral temperature over 100.4 degrees, new cough (that cannot be attributed to allergies or asthma), and shortness of breath.
- Secondary symptoms include chills, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, fatigue, stomach upset (nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea), a congested or a runny nose, and a new loss of taste and/or smell.
If you feel ill and have primary symptoms, please notify your supervisor, stay home, and contact your medical provider.
- If your medical provider orders a COVID test, you may not return to work, until I have received a copy of those results. Please avoid close contact with others while you await your results.
- If your medical provider does not order a COVID test, please remain at home until your fever has been resolved for 72 hours without the use of Tylenol/Advil. For stomach upset, please stay home for 48 hours after your final episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea without the use of anti-nausea/diarrheal medications
- If you come within primary close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, notify your supervisor, stay home, and contact your medical provider. Primary close contact means you were with the ill person, closer than 6 feet, not wearing a mask, and together for more than 15 minutes. Primary close contact typically occurs within families or in healthcare settings. Follow the directions of your medical provider and monitor your temperature twice daily. Typically, your medical provider will clear you to return to work within 10-14 days unless a negative COVID test returns sooner.
I am maintaining records on all potential COVID-19 infections amongst our District Staff. Once students are again on campus, I will be monitoring them as well.
You will be notified if you are suspected to have had a primary exposure to a person with a known positive COVID test.
Please continue to contact me with questions and concerns.
Thank you and please wash your hands,
Nurse Jennifer
