January Character Trait: Kindness
CCA's January character trait is Kindness. "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you," Ephesians 4:32. We asked three CCA students what kindness means to them and here is what they had to say.
First, we asked Lily B from 10th grade. She said, "Kindness is being nice to people and saying encouraging things to others." We then spoke to Miyah C in 8th grade and she said, "Kindness is when someone needs help and you offer a helping hand." Lastly, we asked Asher D in 5th grade what kindness means to him and he said, "Kindness is being friendly to someone, helping others, and being encouraging." We encourage everyone to show kindness this month, whether it's just a simple smile to someone, or helping someone who is in need! -Audrey F
On this Day in History: January 8th.
- In 1935, Elvis Presley was born.
- In 1918, President Woodrow Wilson announced his Fourteen Points (an outline for peace following WWI).
- In 1815, U.S. General Andrew Jackson defeated the British in The Battle of New Orleans. A song about this battle was written by Jimmy Driftwood and produced by Don Law, simply called "The Battle of New Orleans". -Vivian
Chapel
Chapel this week began by the 8th graders leading us in pledges to the American flag, Christian flag and Bible. A song was sung. Katie prayed. Our speaker at Friday's Chapel was Sandra Poff. She is currently the director at The Beacon and served in children’s ministry at the First Baptist Church of Clinton for many years.
Students were asked if they had any New Year’s resolutions. Several students answered, then she asked if we had any spiritual resolutions. Examples were given like reading through the Bible, praying more, as-well-as being kind to our classmates. There was a visual presentation that was shown by volunteers Leo and Vivian. It was a game where they had to balance blocks on an unsteady base. This was later tied in with her saying that we cannot lean on anything other than God. Students were asked to turn to Jeremiah 29:11 which reads, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” It was a great reminder to rely on God throughout this year.
Survey Says:
This week, the survey question was: "Would you rather watch the NBA or college basketball?" With an ending vote of 16 to 44, NBA won. According to College Insider, the NBA is the most popular basketball league in the world, but when it comes to watching a game, college basketball is considerably more pleasant to watch. In college basketball, the games matter to the players, no team is any more advantageous than the next, and it's exciting to watch. CCA students would disagree with the College Insider, since they would rather watch their beloved NBA stars. -Vivian
