Weekly Digging Deeper @ Home

Lighthouse Educational - Printmaking Foam Sheets

Many asked about the foam sheets used today during art for Durer. I order all of our art and science supplies from an amazing company called Lighthouse Educational Products. This link takes you directly to the foam sheets.

Magma Rock Demo - Toothpaste Science

This was a last minute idea I saw relating to the toothpaste science discussion today about magma rock and volcanoes. Very cool way to demo how volcanoes form.

Institute for Excellence in Writing

The Essentials program uses the IEW materials for writing. Upcoming 3rd graders and current Essentials families, follow the link and choose "View or Request Our Home School Magalog" for a great magazine/catalog rich with information about IEW.

Tutor & Teacher Talk

  • Pipe Cleaner Creations for Review - Today as Mrs. Kristy Allen filled in for Mrs. Jaci's class she handed out pipe cleaners I believe after each week of review. The kids were able to create something with the pipe cleaners as they added more. What a fun way to review and so easy to do at home!

Blob Mapping: Geography For All Ages

Your tutor might have mentioned "blob mapping" or might mention it in coming weeks. Here is a quick blog about what that means. We spend about 5-10 minutes a day outside of CC "drawing maps." This year my girls and I will start with Blob Mapping.

Kimbell Art Museum Visit

Thursday, Feb. 25th, 1pm

3333 Camp Bowie Boulevard

Fort Worth, TX

Christie Agnew has set up a docent-guided tour of the permanent collection at the Kimbell. She tried hard to get a little better timing for the littler ones but they are very busy until late March. Plans are to pack a sack lunch and eat at noon between the older and newer building and tour at 1 pm. Talk to Christie for more details regarding appropriateness for various ages.

Log Cabin Village

Wednesday, March 2nd, 9:30-11am

2100 Log Cabin Village Lane

Fort Worth, TX

Check out their website for more details. Our group really enjoyed this trip last year. As weather permits, pack a sack lunch and a blanket and we can eat at the small park after the guided tour. Cost is $3 for student or adult with an additional $1 for children to play in the hands on Seele Cabin and/or view the rest of the site on your own. There are 6 total cabins and our tour includes 5: the Blacksmith, Tompkins, Pickard, Howard and School cabins. It does not include the Mill. Dress for the weather as tour is outdoors and closed toed shoes are recommended, especially for play a the park after.
