STUDENT GOVERNMENT HOSTS LUNCH GAMES
CELEBRATE ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS
- Most English Language Learners build their proficiency in listening, speaking and reading skills much sooner than in their writing.
- Our English Language Learners SBAC sores showed students were 23% proficient in English and 22% in math, compared to school-wide scores of 63% proficient in English and 54% in math.
- A common misconception is to assume that non-native speakers who have attained a high degree of fluency and accuracy in everyday spoken English have the corresponding academic language proficiency. One of the ways to describe the reason behind why this happens is through the BICS and CALP. Watch the video for more information on this! While you watch, consider some of the ways you plan for students to have experiences around academic vocabulary.
