RECOGNIZE SOMEONE
The Recognize SomeONE submissions are pouring in, and we're sharing a few for teachers in The Colony community. As a reminder, you can visit LISD.net/recognize any time to submit your own encouragement for LISD staff.
- Mr. Smith, Attendance Clerk at TCHS | "The role of an Attendance Clerk is not someone who gets enough credit. I very rarely interact with the clerk, but it's definitely nice that when I do, it is a welcoming & easy process. I had the pleasure of talking to Mr. Smith recently. He listened and couldn't have been more helpful."
- Mrs. Griffin, Spanish & AVID Teacher at Lakeview MS | "She not only is great with super fast communication whenever I have reached out as a parent, but she has a way of making my daughter feel seen and important. My daughter has mentioned many times how much she loves being in her classes and feels like she can be herself without judgement. Thank you for being a safe space!"
- Mrs. Brown, 2nd Grade Teacher at BB Owen ES | "Although Mrs. Brown is a past teacher, I have seen so much growth in my son. I truly believe that his path to the success he is on is thanks to her...Her willingness to make sure her students succeed is remarkable. She has been one of the best teachers we have had in LISD and I think she deserves to be recognized! I am forever thankful for you!"

AROUND THE COMMUNITY
Students in TCHS Feeder Pattern Attend Leadership Event
Students in The Colony High School’s feeder pattern received leadership lessons and advice from local leaders in the community. In collaboration with Lewisville ISD, the Lewisville Education Foundation, The Colony Chamber of Commerce and The City of The Colony, 70 students from seven TCHS feeder pattern schools were chosen by campus officials to attend the student leadership event last Friday at Andretti’s Indoor Karting. Students ranged from elementary up to high school and were divided into four groups of all age levels to get to know each other. READ MORE
TCHS Students Taking Steps To Assist Elderly Communities
Students at The Colony High School’s Collegiate Academy are putting their best foot forward in an effort to better the lives of DFW’s elderly population by working with the nonprofit organization Any Step Community Services. Any Step was founded by Sydney Portilla-Diggs, a Collin College and TCHSCA professor, in 2017 to provide nonperishable food items and hygiene products to older adults in the Greater Dallas-Fort Worth area...The service event, which saw over 100 students from Portilla-Diggs’s Humanities 1301 course, other Collegiate Academy students and the TCHS JROTC come together to fill more than 200 food bags, was designed to promote academic social responsibility. Destined to Debate: TCHS Model UN and Debate Clubs Inspire Middle Schoolers
Lakeview and Griffin middle schools were visited by some special guests this week – the Model UN and Speech/Debate clubs from The Colony High School. Their goal is to continue establishing a pipeline of students interested in these programs, and eventually even start clubs at the middle school level. READ MORE

TECC-E Graphic Design Students Bring Camey Elementary Poetry to Life
At TECC-E, students in Chrissie Robertson’s Graphic Design I class are always challenged with a client project during the second half of their semester-long class. After spending the first nine weeks learning the basics like color theory and principles of design, students are more than equipped to handle projects for local businesses and community organizations. But this semester, students were assigned a brand new client with very high expectations – a class of fifth graders at Camey Elementary. Stephanie Campbell told her GT class to write a poem about any topic they wanted to. When they were done, the poems were turned over to the TECC-E graphic design students. READ MORE
Growing & Glowing at Peters Colony Elementary
4th graders at Peters Colony were glowing with excitement as their classroom was transformed for a full day of fun. Mrs. Claire Kincheloe orchestrated the event for her students to get them excited about learning. “This day is centered on teamwork and engagement through a series of tasks and challenges for students to work together to complete,” she said. The twist? All the activities have a glow-in-the-dark theme. Students use “secret ink” to write in their science comprehension notebooks, and then a blue light to see it. They play neon Jenga, with each Jenga block containing a math problem to solve. The “glow-coding” with Bee Bots was a class favorite, as was the glow-in-the-dark cornhole set. SEE MORE
Camping Right Along at Ethridge's Camp Write Along
Fifth graders at Ethridge Elementary went on their own camping adventure this year with Camp Write Along. Camp Write Along is a day-long interactive conference, organized by teacher Brandi Crews, to enhance writing skills among fifth grade students. This event was created to run similar to a professional conference that adults attend. Camp Write Along provided interactive, hands-on opportunities for students to take what they already know about writing and use it to continue improving their skills throughout the various sessions they attend.
