School Starts in a Couple of Weeks!

July 21, 2020


The start of the school year is a couple of weeks away! We are busy working through the logistics of class schedules, coverage, technology distribution, school safety, health guidelines, etc. Equally important, we are planning for students to return to learn. We will continue to monitor academic growth and challenge all our students to do well. We look forward to a safe and successful year together. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


Is there a choice in start time for online students?
Online students will begin at 9:00am.


If my child is online, how do we get a Chromebook?

Come by the Main building (431 Sable Blvd., school on Saturday, 8/1 between 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM to pick up a Chromebook.


Did the uniform colors change?

Uniform top must be light blue, navy blue and (NEW) royal purple.


If my child is learning online at home, does s/he need to wear a uniform at home?
No. Online learners do not have to wear a uniform. Clothing must be appropriate (language, etc.).


Is there a dress code for face masks?
No. Students can wear any color and design as long as it's appropriate (language, image, etc.).


Can students wear a face shield instead of a face mask?

Yes. Face masks and face shields are both acceptable.


My child is an English Language Learner (ELL) student. How is his/her schedule affected?
ELL students will have ELL classes from 2:30 PM- 3:30 PM. K-6th grades will have access to online coursework and 7th-8th grades will have instruction from the ELL teacher.


My child is a special education student. How is his/her schedule affected?

Students should be signed up for 7:30 AM start time. His/her service provider will create a schedule to meet service minutes. Service minutes will be provided in-person unless otherwise requested by a parent.


How do I access Parent Portal?
You can view your child's attendance, grades and class schedule.

and click the orange button to enter your Activation Key.
--> For returning students
  • If there is information that is missing, the name is highlighted. To make changes
and complete the missing fields, click the Edit button. To add a new parent/guardian, click the Add New Parent/Guardian button.


What can I do to help ensure a safe and smooth start to the school year?
  • Show your child the Social Distancing Video at Third Future Schools.
  • Come by for a Building Tour and/or Back-to-School Day/Night (see below).
  • Read the newsletter updates (see below and available on the website).
  • Sign up for a Building Tour if you would like to see the new buildings (5th-6th & 7-8th).
  • If you are eligible for Free Reduced Lunch, submit an application (scroll down for links).


What else can I expect in the next couple of weeks?

  • On Tuesday, 7/28, your child's homeroom teacher will email a welcome letter and Back-to-School Day/Night sign up link.
  • We will provide a visual map with instructions on drop off and pick up locations for each school.
  • We will be trying to launch a carline pick up phone app that will increase student safety and save you time!



Building Expansion

To accommodate a full return this Fall, we are expanding to three buildings. This will allow parents/guardians to return to work and life while kids go back to learning. All buildings will follow the same safety and health guidelines.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS TO CONNECT


Back-to-School Night (in-person)

Monday, August 3rd from 1:00pm-7:00pm

  • Parents/guardians and students are invited to meet their teacher. To ensure we can safely host the event, families will need to sign up in advance for a 20 minute time slot.
  • Your child's homeroom teacher will email you a welcome letter and link on Tuesday, July 28th to sign up!
  • If you are not ready to come back to the building or would prefer to attend a Back-to-School Night virtually, your child's homeroom teacher will provide a link for an Zoom meeting from 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (on August 3rd).
