Esther F Garrison School for the Arts News You Can Use
This is Principal Parks with news you can use. The end of the year is here at Esther F Garrison School for the Arts where creativity and critical thinking prepare our students for 21st century living and where a love for the arts make the difference! There are only 2 days left of school! What a year this has been.
We appreciate your support, donations, words of encouragement and words of critique. We are thankful that you trusted your children with us as we navigated through Covid and continue to try to do what is best for our incredible students as the cases ebb and flow throughout our community. We have done some amazing things this year in spite of it all.... together.
Kudos to our amazing Piano department last week. The showcase of talent was tremendous. Theater held their first annual "Osky" (Oscars + Tony) Awards, a red carpet affair. Kudos to the entire fine arts department on a job well done for the year.
Kudos to our amazing teachers and staff who have worked so hard to ensure that the academic covid slide was remediated, enriched and enhanced for our students. We are getting there!
Congratulations to our 8th grade students. The Children's Botanical Garden feature was amazing. Please see the SMORE for links to preview the documentary premiered at a reception where students were able to meet the original architects and designers of the garden and children's tiles.
Bridging information has been shared in grade level correspondence!
Please ensure all school devices and library books have been turned in before leaving.
All medication in the nurse's office must be picked up by May 24th at 2 pm

Contact Nurse Black at kanitha.black@sccpss.com for questions. Contact Information Specialist Little at kilra.little@sccpss.com for any attendance related questions. See the SMORE for the updated district COVID protocols.

Our phrase for this week is "Stronger Together, Making it Happen". We did just that. We made it happen this year. Whatever IT may have been. It took all of us working together to ensure we were doing what was and is best for children.
We are Team Garrison with One Goal: Student Achievement! We are “Gator” Ready and "Gator" Proud and we are Gators who understand the importance of Partnerships in our school community! Enjoy the SMORE!
Continue to monitor the Garrison website and Facebook page. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out via email or contact the school.
We are STRONGER TOGETHER and we can MAKE IT HAPPEN! Whatever IT may be!
YEARBOOKS SCHEDULED TO BE HERE MAY 24TH
We know, we know…the last day? It’s not ideal--but it is the very best that our printing plant and yearbook company could do. In a year full of supply chain issues and delays across most industries, we hope our Garrison Families will understand things that lie beyond our control. If your student is NOT going to be in school the last day please email Katherine.wells@sccpss.com.
CHILDREN's GARDEN DOCUMENTARY AND RECEPTION
Students Examine Children's Botanical Garden of Tiles Collection
Students from Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts in Savannah visited the Georgia Historical Society Research Center on Thursday, April 7, to research the Children's Botanical Garden of Tiles Collection (GHS 1967) for a documentary project.
The Children's Botanical Garden of Tiles first opened in October 1997 and was designed to provide a venue through which children from Georgia and the world could participate in a memorable hands-on learning experience to commemorate the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Visit the Georgia Historical Society website to learn more about the Children's Botanical Garden of Tiles.
Informational Awareness
Law enforcement agencies across the country have noticed drug traffickers are using emojis to buy and sell counterfeit pills and other illicit drugs on social media and through e-commerce. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) shared a guide aimed to help parents decode secret messages their kids are using to buy drugs on social media.
This bulletin gives educators, parents, caregivers, and influencers a better sense of how the emojis can be used in conjunction with illegal drugs.

Make Healthy Choices
Lets continue to make half your plate veggies and fruits; be active for at least 60 minutes day; drink more water and limit sugary drinks; and limit screen time to one hour
Drinking Water and Intake
Drinking enough water every day is good for overall health. As plain drinking water has zero calories, it can also help with managing body weight and reducing caloric intake when substituted for drinks with calories, like regular soda. Drinking water can prevent dehydration, a condition that can cause unclear thinking, mood change, the body to overheat, constipation, and kidney stones.

From the desk of the Assistant Principal, Stephen D. Ailes
The end of the school year is here. Be safe during the summer months, and we will see you in the coming school year. For those coming to EMBRACE during the Summer, we will see you there!
Thanks to all who are remaining patient during arrival/dismissal. Thanks also for your consideration of the neighbors living in the Blake. Please continue to leave the entrance/exit at the Blake clear as we wait for arrival/dismissal.
Please don't text or use phones in the arrival and dismissal line (Safety before convenience every time and arrive alive).
There are a great many coats and jackets in the lost and found. Remind your child to bring their jackets and coats home each afternoon. Please have your child check the lost and found for their lost belongings (located in the cafeteria). Use a Sharpie to put your child's name in their jackets and coats.
For those who watch the sky, look for the planets that are visible this month. They are Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn: all are visible in the early dawn hours. Look for the constellation of Bootes the Herdsman. The constellation's brightest star, Arcturus, in the early evening sky signals the approach of spring. Happy Viewing!
Keep up the great work! Go Garrison Gators! # Stronger Together!
