Husky Highlight
November 29, 2021
Note from Ms. Moulton
Greetings Hosmer Families,
A Happy Thanksgiving long weekend to everyone!
Gratitude Week
Our students are simply wonderful. We have hung gratitude posters throughout the school that students have been adding to as well. It is quite beautiful to see the things that they notice and appreciate about their lives. There are pictures posted below and on social media.
Hosmer Festival of Light
Many cultures and religions around the world celebrate holidays involving light during the winter months. We will soon begin learning about many of these holidays during morning announcements. If you or your child would like to participate in teaching the school a brief (less than five minutes) about a holiday that you celebrate that involves light, please let me know! Some holidays involving light include Hannukah, Christmas, Diwali, Kwanzaa, Yule, Las Posadas, and many more. Many New Year's celebrations also involve light and we are eager to learn more about celebrations across our community. SImply reply to this email and I will connect further with you to your child.
Covid Updates
Pooled testing will occur tomorrow, Monday.
iReady Assessment
Our Kindergarten students will begin their first round of iReady testing this week. Students in grades 1-5 will complete their mid-year assessment prior to the December vacation.
Iready is an online, adaptive assessment that assists us in better preparing students for upcoming units and in helping students with gap areas. Iready also provides useful and actionable information to guide the planning of Math Workshop and WIN blocks.
Assigned Seats on School Buses
A reminder that seats have been assigned on school buses. Students were informed on Friday and a newsletter was sent home to families of all bus riders. Please remind your students to sit in their assigned seats as they head off to school this week.
Nurse Update
Nurse Sabrina Marchant is on maternity leave awaiting the birth of her baby. Nurse Bianca Jones is currently covering for her. Her email is Bianca.Jones@watertown.k12.ma.us.
Thank you for your continued support of our wonderful school! I am so very grateful for all of you.
With a grateful heart,
Ms. Moulton

Move Updates and Volunteers Needed
One of the many significant projects related to the move is the coordination of the donation of furniture and fixtures from the current building to other town offices and non-profit organizations and to other school districts across the state.
I am looking for volunteer assistance in any of the following ways:
- Coordinating cataloging of items available for donation (based upon classroom inventory spreadsheets that are already completed). This is a task that can be completed from home and involves a lot of spreadsheets.
- Reaching out to community organizations who may be interested in some of these items and organizing a time (and process) for them to visit and claim items. This would involve connecting with organizations, scheduling a walkthrough of the building off-hours so that organizations can see and claim items, and assisting in the maintaining of a database of claimed items.
- Coordinating the pick-up schedule of organizations that will collect items over the February break.
If you are interested in helping (or if you have already in place organizational systems for things like this that you can share!), please contact me directly at erin.moulton@watertown.k12.ma.us.
PTO Update
Hello Hosmer Families, This week--as always--we are grateful for all our teachers, staff & administrators who teach & support our students! We are also grateful for all our families and community members who support our school! We wish you a relaxing and fun holiday weekend.
- Support Hosmer's Enrichment Fund on Giving Tuesday: your donation supports enrichment activities for students, reimbursements for teacher supplies, and programs for the whole school like International Week performances. $10 funds enrichment programs for 1 student; $30-$50 helps fund school-wide events; and $125 covers reimbursement for supplies for 1 teacher. Every donation helps: https://store.hosmerpto.org/ We thank you in advance!
- Hosmer Husky Water Bottles: available for purchase at https://store.hosmerpto.org/; if you want any for Hanukkah gifts before the 12/3 pick-up, email cm@hosmerpto.org for free in-town delivery this Saturday or Sunday.
- December Meeting: Monday, December 13 at 6:30 pm on Zoom, join us to meet one of our music teachers, Ms. Sara Patashnick, get an update from Principal Moulton, and more!
