Weekly update for the Meadows Elementary School community

Week 6 of Distance Learning

Good Evening Meadows Families,

We are entering our 6th week of distance learning. And, we are only four weeks away until the end of the school year. Later this week, we will send out information about the close of the school year including information on 6th grade promotion. We will send a separate email with these details. Please look out for this information this week. And, if any questions arise, you can email or call us at any time.

Please continue to stay connected with our community. I highly encourage you to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates and reminders. We often put out videos and you'll see staff sharing information.

Regarding the Science Fair, we will be judging the applicants submissions this week and will have the award winners announced in next weekend's Messenger.

Please also see the attached memo regarding the NSD Calendar for next school year.

Be safe. Be well.

Keeping Kids Healthy and Active At Home

Keeping Kids Healthy and Active At Home

Now that we're about two months into this different way of living, many of our students (and families and staff!) have expressed feeling stuck, bored, and tired of engaging in the same activities day after day. The novelty of spending time at home in comfortable clothes and being on the computer and technology for a large portion of the day has worn off, and we're all becoming a little bit (or, for many of us, more than a little bit) antsy to change things up and do something new or different!

For the last month of school, I will be leading a group called "At-Home and Active with Ms. Haft." Each school day (Monday-Thursday), I will post a running and/or exercise challenge for our students to complete. A few days a week, I will schedule time to go LIVE (with special guests) to get active together from the safety of our homes. To join the Google Classroom group, follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to Google Classroom using your student's NSD account

  2. Push the "+" in the top right hand corner of the page

  3. Select "Join Class"

  4. Enter the following class code: zfpkaor

Once the daily challenge has been completed, add a comment or picture below the post if you'd like! The goal is to give students something fun and exciting to do each day, while also providing an opportunity for them to connect with other students about staying active. Hopefully it's one thing they can look forward to!

Additionally, my sister (Claire Haft) is a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist and the Vice President of Project Development for SuperKids Nutrition. I've been speaking with her often about how to support and encourage a healthy lifestyle for elementary school students and their families. Each time we speak, our conversations lead back to the SuperKids Nutrition website, which can be found here:

I hope you find this information helpful and useful! Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any questions :)

Stay healthy!
