The Early Learning Center's November Students of the Month
Manavon's Character Trait of the Month Recipients: Gratitude
Celebrating the First Grade Authors
Students in Mrs. Yelk, Mrs. Snaith and Mrs. Wosczyna's first grade classes celebrated the publication of their Unit 1 writing pieces which were small moment stories. Students were grouped up and had the opportunity to read their stories to each other.
Mosaic Art from Second Grade
Miss Davis, Mrs. Houseman's student teacher, and the students in Mrs. Houseman's second grade class explained their mosaic art mural and their own personal addition to the piece showcasing what makes them happy. They presented it as a gift to Dr. Celotto, and the final product will be hung in Manavon to celebrate our students!
Living Things in Ecosystems
In Miss Stauffer's science classes, students have been studying living things and ecosystems. They learned about the organisms within an ecosystem including producers, consumers, and decomposers. To study decomposers more closely, students constructed their own redworm habitats to observe these grinder decomposers in action. Over time, students will work to answer the question, "What happens when compost worms interact with organic litter?"
Manavon's Best Buddies Club
Manavon’s Best Buddies program met this month to try to capture some turkeys! The students worked together and communicated with one another in order to build cages out of toothpicks, marshmallows, and gummy pumpkins. We had some impressive builds going on!
Phantom Buddies
Mrs. Fortescue who is an Autistic Support teacher at PAELC and Mrs. Moore who is a Life Skills teacher at the high school have partnered up for their 2nd year of the Phantom Buddies Program. The program’s main objective is to build a relationship amongst our younger and older students in Phoenixville.
Our secondary objectives are:
- Provide our younger learners exposure to different types of students from Phoenixville. We want them to see their Phantom Buddies in a positive light and how they can be helpful and Kind and that their differences do not need to be a reason to not interact or be social with different learners.
- Provide experience to our high school students in leading a lesson and building independence with a task through repeated practice and preparation.
This year we plan to take on different themes that will include a story reading and center activities to provide the students with time to interact. November's theme was fall!

Volunteers
As we prepare for another year of in-person events and activities, we will need parent volunteers. All volunteers will need to be board approved. Please click here to register for board approval. We are planning trips and activities beginning in the fall and look forward to welcoming parent volunteers.
Birthday/Holiday Treats
Due to the many students with allergies and food reactions food items to celebrate student birthdays are not permitted. We are requesting that all birthday recognitions be non-food based. We do want to acknowledge student birthdays but encourage families to do so in other ways. For example, small items such as pencils or stickers for classmates or the donation of a book to the school or classroom library in honor of a child’s birthday would be appropriate. Thank you for honoring and respecting this request.
Holiday celebrations will be held in compliance with School Board Policy #246 Student Wellness. The policy states “The district recognizes that classroom parties and celebrations are a tradition at school. School staff and parents/guardians are encouraged to include healthy food offerings, as defined in this policy, at school parties and events to support a healthy environment throughout the district.” Policy 246 can be viewed in its entirety by visiting the district’s website.
Holiday celebrations and end-of-year classroom celebrations will be announced in advance for parents to be prepared in determining food choices with their children. Birthday celebrations are held randomly and do not allow for parent awareness prior to the event in the school setting, which contributed to the decision for birthday recognitions to be non-food based.
