Battle of the Somme
By:Edwin
The battle began on July 1, 1916, and it ended in November 18, 1916. The weapons they used were mainly machine guns because it killed many men at once. Men also used artillery shells to blow up the enemy's trench. The English used tanks but they were not very effective.
Soldiers used broken, destroyed tanks and gas masks to protect themselves against the enemy. The reason they used tanks and gas masks is because the tanks protected them from the shooting and the gas masks protected them from the poison gas.
How Many Poeple Died?
In the battle, 60,000 men were injured. On the first day, 324 soldiers died and 386 were wounded within a 30 minute timespan. On September 15, 2,600 men were injured in just one day.
