International Justice Mission
Secures justice for victims of slavery, abuse, and rape.
The Sad Truth
1 in 5 women will be a victim of rape or attempted rape in her lifetime. Approximately 27 million people are currently enslaved in the human trafficking trade. 40 million children under the age of 15 suffer from abuse and neglect. Nearly 30 million people are held as modern day slaves. There are nearly 246 million child laborors worldwide. By 2020, about 1.5 billion of the worlds poor will live without secure rights to their home or land. Armed conflict has killed 2 million children. These are all against the human rights. This is what so many people have to live with.
Rescue Thousands. Protect Millions. Prove That Justice for the Poor Is Possible.
It was founded in 1997 by Gary Haugan. He began operations in response to a massive need around the world. The International Justice Mission is there for any and all victims. Haugen and the work of IJM have been featured on “Dateline NBC,” “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” FOX News, MSNBC, CNN, NPR, Forbes Magazine, Need Magazine, Christianity Today, and in the New York Times Magazine. Haugan was also featured in Harvard Magazine and in the University of Chicago School of Law's magazine, "From The Record". They give lawyers, therapy, and will stop at nothing to give you justice and put the people who have taken your life away, away.
How to get involved
You can start your own fundraiser by yourself or with friends to raise money and awareness of this worldwide problem. You can volunteer at the DC headquarters. Main projects include entering contact cards from speaking engagements into a database, mailing followup letters and other one-time projects. Training will be provided by IJM staff, along with a pizza dinner. You can just donate money too, if you don't have enough free time.
