Distance Learning
Distance Learning!
As a school system, the Archdiocese of Baltimore is making a promise to continue to educate our students for the 2019-2020 school year. Our teachers will be continuing our distance learning model including video conferencing and live or recorded content delivery with some necessary tweaking after teacher, student, and parent feedback.
Currently, distance learning is scheduled to take place through May 15th.
Information pertaining to distance learning can be found on the Distance Learning page of our website.
Zoom - Called by Name :)
The display name used for Zoom should be the real name (first or last) of the student participating in the class. This allows teachers to more easily identify those who belong in the Zoom Classroom and allow them access to the class.
Update Regarding "Specials" and Student Expectations
Dear Families,
We recognize learning during this COVID distance learning model requires flexibility, reflection, and adjustments as we encounter extended closures and tend to the social-emotional needs of our students and families. There have been many requests for clarification regarding art, music, p.e., media, and Spanish class requirements during distance learning. The administration and specials teachers met this week to set expectations for our students.
We are offering specials classes as enrichment for Grades PK – 8. It is important that we educate the whole child, and allow our students time away from the screen/Zoom to explore their talents and gifts through the arts as well as exercise their bodies and spirits. Art, music, media and p.e. teachers will continue to provide a lesson and activity once a week for students to do. We strongly encourage our students to take advantage of these wonderful opportunities to be creative and active!
In order to keep our students on track to be prepared for the high school expectations for foreign language skills, Spanish classes for Grades 3rd – 8th are required. Students will be offered one lesson per week with no more than one assignment given each week. These assignments will need to be turned in by their due dates and will be graded. There will not be scheduled Zoom classes for Spanish, but Mrs. Rubio-Pino and Mrs. DeNicoilis will be available by Google Classroom or email to offer support/feedback to students as needed.
The specials class expectations are as follows beginning Monday, April 27th:
Art, music, p.e., media and Spanish for Grades PK - 2nd: Optional enrichment lessons will be shared one time per week.
Art, music, p.e., media for Grades 3rd - 8th: Optional enrichment lessons will be shared one time per week.
Spanish for Grades 3rd - 8th: Assignments will be mandatory. This is required in order to keep students on track for middle and high school courses.
For optional special class assignments, no grades will be given, but teachers will provide feedback should the student elect to complete the work to encourage their growth and acknowledge their hard work.
Sincerely,
The RSPS Administration

Invention Convention Competition UPDATE
In the spirit of INNOVATION we will be going digital and use a Website to showcase all of the "Invention Convention" submissions. By uploading and submitting your project through STEM Google Classroom Mr. Fiumara and Mrs. Grue will be able to share it with the judges and RSPS community.
Please refer to the instructions for the content to include in your submission, but instead of a boring trifold you may now upload Google Slides, videos, Google Docs. Prezis, or any type of presentation you create. We are excited to see what you choose.
Research papers may include pictures with captions to add interest and perspective to your report.
You may start submitting your projects now. All projects are due by May 6th unless you were given and extension by Mr. Fiumara or Mrs. Grue. We will post them and share the website with you. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
STEM Challenges
STEM Challenges for Extended Learning can be found on You Grade level STEM Google Classroom. These are for you enjoyment, sense of adventure and competition, and are provided for fun not as a graded assignment
Students in grades 6-8 will be required to participate. We are encouraging all students to work on their projects during the two week school closure.
Students may participate as individuals, pairs, or as a group of three, but must adhere to grade-band constraints. You may download the competition packets and contact your child’s homeroom teacher with any questions. Middle school students/families should direct all questions to Mrs. Grue and/or Mr. Fiumara.
The school and teachers will provide support for contestants, but teachers will not be responsible for producing the projects. Inventions should be original and created by the students with adult guidance, support and supervision.
Please see the letter and information below for more details.
